Fear of success is as predominant as fear of failure and is one of the explanations why lots of people are not accomplishing and increasing their potential.
Most of the time, the fear of success is subconscious. As such it has great power. When the enemy is obscure it can bash you in the back. When you cast the light of awareness over it you can rationally analyze it, confront it, debate it or apply my SCT (Sabotage Correction Technique) to eliminate it.
In my years of practice I discovered quite a small number of flavors and sub-flavors of the fear of success. Lots of people are subconsciously and yet consciously afraid of the obligations that come with success. They are frightened that success definitely takes away a lot of time from merriment, diversion and social activities. They fear that the time required accomplishing (and maintaining) success would step in with their quality of life. They’ll have less time to sleep, workout, and eat right or play. They may lose sleep worrying about losing it all.
And it is much more terrible crashing down from a high place.
Another usual fear is that once successful they’ll get much of unwanted attention. They’ll feel pressure to meet too high of expectations either from themselves or from others to always transcend their current success. People would anticipate from their successful allies or relatives to support them out financially or otherwise.
I discover that people are subconsciously stopping their success as they fear it is alone up there. They are afraid to lose their friends. The friends may be exacerbated, or envious, or feel restrained. I had a patient who was afraid that her wealth would restrain possible suitors. She was also afraid that people would definitely marry her for her money and not for who she is.
I had a patient who subconsciously did not surpass the sum of money his father made. He was subconsciously afraid of the father’s revenge. Another person felt her father’s affection comes to her in the form of financial support and subconsciously was afraid to lose his loving attention should she be financially independent.
Lots of artistic people live with the Archetype of the Starving Artist. They are subconsciously convinced that commercial success will compromise their art and genuineness.
And there is the religious angle: People are afraid that accomplishment would crook them, make them avaricious and attached to material things. Some have the concept that their wealth is at the expense of all the millions who are starving. A patient of mine had the subconscious impression that once wealthy he’ll stop being humble and nice and will be more conceited, self-centered and full of himself.
Another usual fear is the fear of the unknown. Being successful is unfamiliar and therefore terrible. Along the same line, to be able to be successful they’ll have to go out of their comfort zone.
In my practice, after taking away self-sabotage to being happy generally, I use Energy Muscle Testing (EMT) to check sabotage to success. I maintain being surprised by increasingly types and varieties of the fear of success. As we are able to observe so remove the sabotage using my SCT, people are gradually prepared stop standing in their own path and begin accomplishing progressively financial and career success.
