Memories have a way of creeping up on you. You might flashback to your prom, or the moment you held your first born. As you age, your memories become much more vivid, you remember even the slightest detail.
Some memories are fantastic while others might be a living hell depending on what they went through. Enjoy reminiscing about old friends and good times. Those memories will always be a treasure.
For those who prefer not to remember the days of ole, all you have to do is breathe. Yes, it is that simple, get lost in your breath. Let me explain. If you have a bad memory simply close your eyes and take a deep breath. While you are taking that deep breath realize that you are living in the moment of now; not yesterday, and not 10, 20 or thirty years ago. Right now you are safe, no one can harm you. You may not have been safe in your memory, but you are now. As you take a few deep breaths, feel your heartbeat. Just know that you are a loving soul who is worthy of fabulous memories, make new memories to replace the old. After you have taken a few deep breaths, notice your surroundings, they are not the same. If you did not feel love back then, take notice of it now and feel it.
Everyone has memories but not everyone’s memories are pleasant. We all lead and have lead different lives. No-one is to judge; but learn to accept, acknowledge and respect one another. That bad memory was at a different time, the past. Today in this very moment, things are not the same as they use to be, and be grateful for that and appreciate it.
The best way to cope with a bad memory is to gain new memories. Let laughter replace sadness, let friends replace isolation and loneliness. Learn to give after all that has been taken away. Let your light shine after all the darkness. Most importantly lean about love and what it truly means. Love yourself, love others, and trust that there is good in the world. The good has always been there but you were too sheltered from the world; you have never seen nor felt it, feel it now.
Take time to enjoy the person that you are, appreciate everyone and everything. This is your chance to shine and don’t let anyone dim your light. You have to be strong and rise from the darkness. When the darkness creeps in, just breath and live for now, enjoy each moment in the light. Here’s to good times and making wonderful memories, you deserve it.
