A truly holistic approach to addiction recovery addresses the complete person in a concurrent way. This means that the body, mind, soul and spirit of an individual are simultaneously involved in the healing process. The Sanctuary at Sedona is such a program. To the best of our knowledge, we are unique in the field, providing comprehensive services to address each level of an individual’s need. The result is that we equip our clients with the experiences and tools they need to maintain a sustainable and full recovery from addiction.

Healing the energy body is one of the key aspects of addiction recovery in our program. This is a concept that may be unfamiliar to you; however, it is simple science that, when applied, yields vast benefit in addiction recovery. Energy work addresses the human nervous system and its electrical nature. What we think of as the life force, that ‘electricity’ that gives us life and makes all our functioning possible, works through the human nervous system to create an electro-magnetic field. This field is the organizing principle underlying the physical body and its state of health. We may also call this field the spirit—that vital force within us that gives us life and moves through us throughout our lives.

To better illustrate these concepts, think of the organizing qualities of a magnet that comes into contact with iron filings. Prior to applying the magnet, the filings have no particular order. When the magnet is applied, however, the filings are organized to make the magnet’s electro-magnetic field visible. This is very similar to the energy field of the human body. It is invisible but exerts a powerful organizing effect nonetheless.

A state of health is a reflection of the electro-magnetic field in and around us. Any imbalances in that field are reflected in imbalances in the body, mind, soul and spirit. When those are corrected in the energy field, we also see the results in other realms. With energy work, we become more integrated and more balanced. In other words, we become healthier.

You can think of a balanced and integrated energy field as a vibrant boundary that surrounds an individual, holding the self intact and making each of us who we are. The field also operates as a filter when it is healthy, providing us protection from the stresses of everyday life and helping us to maintain our balance despite those. This has great significance in creating a sustainable addiction recovery and is why we have made energy work a core aspect of our program.
