As February is the “month of Love” (or so Hallmark would have us believe on Valentine’s Day), I wondered what love would look like in Five-Part Harmony. The Five-Part Harmony Model of Health includes the physical, mental, emotional, Spiritual and energetic aspects of healthy being, and posits that all five parts must be in balance to experience optimal health and wellness. So what would love look like in Five-Part Harmony?
Emotions:
Since love is an emotional state of being, let’s start here. Loving your emotional self means acceptance of who you are and what you feel in the moment (please note you are not required to stay there!) Emotions that we consider “negative” are merely symptoms that we are out of balance. If we can stay focused and trace the unhappy feeling back to its roots, we can begin to heal – by choosing to see things differently, by acknowledging and resolving trauma, by acknowledging and re-patterning old unconscious ways of behavior (coping).
Heartmath Institute has many studies that demonstrate a coherent (balanced) heart is intuitive, and promotes health on all levels of being. Meditation is one simple path to a coherent heart. Some of us may be too out of balance to meditate easily, too out of balance to focus inside ourselves and find our hearts – and for those of you, I offer the following simple exercise:
1) Find a quiet place to sit and focus. If you are not a visual thinker, light a candle and gaze at it during the exercise, or simply close your eyes if that is less distracting and more comfortable.
2) Focus your attention at the center of your chest, if this is difficult simply place one hand over your heart and put your attention on your hand.
3) Breath in slowly, and pay attention to the path your breath takes – notice as your breath flows into your nostrils, down the back of your throat, down into your windpipe, and further down into your lungs. Hold the breath in place for a few heartbeats (feel them under your hand), then slowly breath back out paying the same attention to your breath on the return journey.
4) Continue to breathe like this for a few minutes (16-20 breaths) then shift your attention to the space under your hand and between your full lungs. This is your heartspace. You may simply continue breathing, aware of your heartspace, or you may begin to repeat a word or phrase such as “love” or “love is who I am”, or “my heart is open to love”. Sit like this for another 20-25 breaths.
5) Repeat this exercise daily with your full attention and notice the changes it brings into your life!
Mind:
“A Course in Miracles” tells us that there are only two choices: love or fear. Make a conscious decision to choose love, every moment of every day. If you notice a “negative” emotion, remember it is a symptom, and respond accordingly. Choose to focus your mind on something that promotes acceptance of self and others such as the Meta Prayer from the Bhuddist tradition, the Prayer of Saint Francis, or the Prayer of Protection by James Dillet Freeman. Any of these thoughts, held in mind and directed at others, is a way of mindfully choosing love.
Spirit:
Choose to be love in action, by volunteering or donating to the charity of your choice. Choose to support social justice and the planet by making conscious, fair trade, “green” decisions with every purchase. Choose non-violent, co-operative solutions wherever possible. Choose to release judgements and listen. Choose to consciously create the world you wish to live in!
Body:
Love your body! Choose to practice non-violence towards your body:
• Healthy diet (no artificial ANYTHING). Consider spreading non-violence out to the world and go vegetarian!
• Gentle exercise (sports injuries, especially self-inflicted = violence)
• Conscious breathing (see Emotions above) – activates the parasympathetic nervous system and induces relaxation and heart coherence
• Hydration – two liters of water/herbal teas daily
Energy:
Spend time in Nature, spend time resting, spend time relaxing – spend time self-caring (LOVE YOURSELF!) The end result of these physical, mental, emotional and Spiritual actions is a vibration of true happiness!!!
Andrea Gruszecki, Doctor of Naturopathy, is a holistic health advocate and educator. A specialist in mind-body medicine, Andrea’s talent is to help clients remove their blocks. Andrea is please to offer Holographic Memory Resolution (HMR™), Body Talk Access™, and Five-Part Harmony to help clients make the necessary mind/body connections to restore balance and create health.
Andrea has the necessary training and education to present clients with information about their “dis-ease” process or other blocks and healing/rebalancing alternatives. In addition to her Doctorate from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and HMR certification, Andrea has studied Reiki, Healing Touch, ARCH (Ancient Rainbow Consciousness Healing), Body Talk Access and other mind/body techniques. Through a combination of HMR, intuition and formal education, Andrea uncovers information about the root causes of imbalances in body, mind, emotions, Spirit, or energy. (As many physical symptoms have a psycho-spiritual root cause, they cannot be assessed or relieved with conventional medical testing or treatment.) HMR can help uncover the root causes, and in combination with other therapies or modalities, remove “obstacles to cure” and restore balance.
Andrea offers HMR to provide her clients the unique insights they need to release blocks or resistance to health and balance. She has much to offer clients seeking education, options, self-improvement, or Self-awareness.
