Various legal tasks are handled by the attorneys for their clients. An individual accused of a crime or a corporation facing a civil lawsuit or a recently married couple who needs to prepare wills or apply for a divorce hires an attorney to represent them.
Lawyers and attorneys are hired by both individuals and corporate groups for dealing with the legal problems and issues. Some of them are specialized in areas like criminal laws, some others in tax law or bankruptcy. But successful lawyers hold certain skills, and the financial rewards and reputation for those with the right personal qualities can only be substantial. Some of these skill sets are described here in below:
Interpersonal and Social Skills-
rnAttorneys must be able to encourage clients to follow and abide by their advice and convince the opposition in such a way that they agrees to negotiate about a resolution. They require to have the ability to read people and situation properly and find out the best tactic to use when proposing their points. The quality of a lawyer vastly depends on the social and interpersonal skills. During the representation of a case, the attorneys are expected to read the reaction of the adjudicators on the statements and testimonies. Another duty involves the proper reading of the witnesses to identify that the individual’s testimony is honest and unprejudiced.
Communication Skills-
Possessing good verbal communication skills is a must for all attorneys. This makes them effective in the courtroom and help them place convincing arguments and speeches in front of the judges and juries. They are sometimes needed to write different documents, legal notices and even case studies, so their written communication also has to be strong. The listening skills also need to be quite well, so that they are able to follow complex testimonies, understand and examine what the clients tell them.
Logical and Analytical Skills-
Lawyers must bear the skill of absorbing a lot of information all together. They are needed to make it both during law schools and also while preparing for a case. These informations are then utilized by them to consolidate and analyse in a logical manner. They also have to evaluate and choose among the argument or different laws that best supports their cause.
Judgment Powers-
The power of thinking critically is very important for lawyers. Their main duty lies in the ability to follow a chain of logics to identify potential trouble areas in their own arguments. Also identifying the weak points in the reasoning presented by their opposition party forms a vital task. The lawyers must often exercise their judgment in determining the best course of action that could be followed.
Determination and perseverance-
Commitment and persistence is the basic requirement for an attorney in Sudan. They have to go through a typical path from the bachelor’s degree, trailed by the three year law school and then the state bar exam before being allowed to practice law. After they pass out the bar exams they start taking up cases and puts in a lot of time preparing for the case. Their research, documentation and witness interviews consumes a lot of time. So each and every attorney must have enough patience and determination to invest the time required to achieve a successful conclusion to every case.
