Every day there are distractions, some of those are bigger than others. Some are more important things that need tending to more than others. The important thing is to take care of them but not get lost in them. Always remember the self.
The self is being comfortable with who you are and what you stand for. It means taking time to nourish and appreciate who you are. It means tending to your souls needs.
On a daily basis you tend to others needs and wants. Between your career, your spouse, significant other, children, parents and your home, that leaves little spare time for nourishing your soul.
I’ll break it down to three categories, the shadow, body and spirit.
The shadow is when you become a shadow of the other person. This is so easy to fall into to, you become a shadow of the person you are close to. This could be a relationship, best friends, parents, etc. Sometimes there are labels, Tommy’s girlfriend, Billy’s wife, etc. We can also shadow our friends and parents as well. To change this all you have to do is recognize it. Once you recognize it you will want to change it and become more of your own person.
The physical body is so important because we tend to stress over the want and need for perfection. Perfection, once obtained does not mean that it is life-long. To me, perfection means that you are comfortable with who you are at all times, no matter what state the physical body is in. You have to be comfortable in your own skin. Listen to your body and know what it needs. Your health is so important, so fret over being a size two, look at it as you want to be here for a long time and my heart doesn’t need the added strain of carrying around extra weight. You might end up a size 9, but you are a healthy size 9, and that’s all that matters.
You have to nourish your spirit as well. This is your soul, it is your hopes and dreams. Your wants and needs have to be attended to, just as you tend to others. This is not giving up on yourself! Sometimes with so much going on we just get into the flow of things instead of challenging ourselves. Some people have a bucket list others simple try new things. Do anything that it takes to keep your spirit alive.
So with the kids being sick, the boss asked you to work late, Sally’s game is tonight, when do you have time to just breathe and dream? You grab those moments, those moments of sitting down with your cup of tea and just dream, and then you make them a become a reality.
