A dental clinic: the first things you should know
As with all forms of health care education and training, that for a career in dentistry takes place partly in the classroom, partly in hospitals and partly in clinics. The latter are, in particular, one of the most effective ways of preparing people for local jobs that pay well; after all, it is in this kind of setting that the trainees hope to be working for all of their professional lives. This article will tell you some of the things that you can expect to learn in a dental clinic, with the last section focusing specifically on dentists in troy oh.

Health care training

Training for dental health aide therapists (DHATs) often takes place in a clinical setting. You may required to take post-high-school competency-based curriculum in primary health care for two years, in which preventive clinical practices are incorporated; or again, you may take an externship in a clinic that consists of a certain number of hours of hands-on training.
As an example of the kind of extreme training that can take place in a dental clinic, a group of high school students in Gulf Shores, Alabama, took part in a program in which a car accident was simulated. The goal of this simulation was to test students’ ability to practice their newly-learned medical skills in a safe environment, going over their checklists in the process.
Of course, a dentist does not usually have to face situations such as this, but he or she will have to deal with physical and mental challenges. That is why it is so helpful to have clinics in which students can practice the skills that they have learned and discover what it takes when a dentist faces a patient who is afflicted with badly rotted, decaying teeth or significantly advanced periodontal disease in which most of the gum line has been eaten away, exposing the roots of teeth that must be removed and replaced with artificial ones. Although the ugliest cases are certainly going to go to a licensed dentist, and not to one in training, the incidents with which you will be dealing in a clinic will be close enough to “the real thing” not only to prepare you for such, but also to foster courage, not to mention camaraderie among the trainees.
Clinics are also used to teach students to become dental assistants or technicians.
The use of PDAs
PDAs are becoming increasingly popular among students in dental clinics. They provide access to videos and other online support materials, and they allow trainees to take notes and keep diaries of what they have learned. They are certainly more affordable and less cumbersome than laptops.
