The phone rang the other evening, and to my delight it was a group of friends from college. I gladly took a little break from my work on the computer to chat.

I laid on my bed and talked to all three—they put me on a speaker phone (a great invention). We shared fun things only we girls can understand.

“My flight will arrive at 12:55,” I said to one of them.

“I’ll be there…gotcha covered,” she said.

“And…I might need someone to accompany me to…” I said.

“I gotcha covered there too. And if you want to stay with me, you got it.”

I pressed my head on my pillow, and inhaled a long breath. How blessed I am to have treasured friends like her. And how do I express the proper kind of gratitude?

We’re talking gratitude? I think I heard a voice in me say. How about God who has us covered in every way, in every situation? In all stages of our zany lives…when life isn’t pretty…when the navigation through trials is vague…when we arrive at the airport of pain…when no one else is waiting for us to bring comfort and relief—God has all that covered.

Here are three truths to ponder when we lay in bed and sink our head on the pillow of reassurance:

He happens to be almighty, powerful and all-knowing. And so deserving of our trust. When we cannot see through the troubles of the day, He can handle anything that comes our way.
He knows those urgent needs that keep us awake at night. And while we fret, He’s planning the solution.
There is no detail He misses. He watches and knows when we sit and when we stand. And He is aware of our weakness and our inability to solve troubles on our own. So He imparts grace that is constant and sufficient.
This chica didn’t have to be a genius to see the reason half of us walk around in grumpy gloom is because we plain forget that He, the God of the universe indeed, has us covered.

“O Lord you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise. You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my laying down. You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is in my tongue, you know it completely O Lord! If I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast” (Psalm 139:2-4, 8-10).

Father, so often I regard you as being distant, being aloof to my path and unaware of my needs. I will change, and learn to rest in you, to lean on your Word, and to confidently press on, knowing you see all, from the past, the present and what will happen tomorrow—you have my life covered. In Jesus’ name I thank you. Amen.

Do you have a friend who commits to have you covered?
In whom do you trust when unexpected trips take you to unpleasant places?
How does your outlook change knowing God is aware of every detail?
