When working with the supportive properties of Tarot, the concept of “reading” comes from viewing which cards are put into which position in a layout or spread. Spreads, simply put, are methods of laying down oracle cards; in this particular discussion we are referring to Angel Cards. Every card is assigned a certain position, and the knowledge of meaning of that position can help us gain a better understanding of messages of from our angels/higher beings.

Types of Spreads
After you have prepared your cards and your environment for a reading, a reader or interpreter shuffles the cards while focusing on the question and uses one of the following spreads, based on the nature of the question being asked.

SINGLE CARD SPREAD
If the questioner has a specific question, as in whether she is to go ahead with a particular venture or in which direction is her relationship with someone headed, the reader can pick a single card. Just in case she is unable to fully comprehend what the card is trying to tell her, she may pick up two more cards to understand the meaning. The meaning will provide clarity based on the imagery of the following chosen cards.

THREE CARD SPREAD
The Three Card Spread is pretty similar to Tarot’s three card spread, in which the first card denotes the past, the second card the present and the third card the future. This spread is useful for gaining a better understanding of the life situation at hand.

Identifying Your Guide Spread
If the questioner simply wants to know who his guide or angel is, the reader can use the single card “identify your guide/angel spread.” As the name suggests, the reader needs only to draw out one card and the angel depicted on the card is the angel or guide who has taken his charge. Some individuals have more than one guide or angel, so just in case the reader has an overwhelming urge to pick out one or two more cards, perhaps it is the reader’s angels’/guides’ way of making their presence known to the reader.

Drawing out angel cards may seem like a random process, but if the reader changes his perspective a little he’ll realize when he chooses one card over the other, he is actually allowing his subconscious to make the decision for him. The subconscious is connected to the universal pool of knowledge, and it is through the subconscious that his guides and angels can send suggestions and messages.

The most important thing to remember is that there are no wrong readings and there are no wrong cards. In case the reader finds herself unable to understand the real meaning of a card, it is as simple as sending a message to her angels and requesting them to send more hints her way so the reader can understand the true essence of the message. A person will be very surprised at the number of ways the angels come up with to send across their guidance. Additional messages are sent through when a person switches on the TV or picks up a book impulsively; in fact, a message may even be received via an unexpected call from a friend saying something that will help the individual understand the meaning of the card the reader drew out. Remaining open and holding the intention of receiving further clarification will support the angels being able to offer their support to change a life for the better with loving guidance.

Until next time, embrace your inner wisdom.

Namaste,
Karen
