University of Southampton’s podiatry masters is UK’s first to accept novice students
The University of Southampton’s MSc masters degree in podiatry is the first course of its kind in the country to accept applications from would-be students who are not registered to practice and do not already hold an undergraduate degree in the subject.
This masters in podiatry closely mirrors the BSc in podiatry, also offered by the University of Southampton, but has the advantage of empowering graduates with a masters level qualification.
It should go without saying that a podiatry masters student will be deeply concerned with disease and disorder of the lower limb and performing treatments that involve the foot and ankle. Qualified podiatrists are skilled in the diagnosis and management of foot disorders and are able to carry out a range of treatments, for patients of all age groups.
Because of the demanding nature of Southampton’s podiatry masters programme, this course is aimed at the most gifted and dedicated of students. Typically, students studying the MSc masters in podiatry at Southampton will hold an undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) in an allied subject like biology or physiotherapy.
To work as a registered podiatrist in the NHS and other healthcare environments you must hold a recognised university degree in podiatry, such as the ones offered at the University of Southampton, and be registered with the Health Professions Council.
However, once qualified with a masters degree in podiatry, graduates can expect to compete more favourably for entry-level podiatry roles than their rivals who hold the BSc.
