Getting old and the aging process is sadly, one that cannot yet be reduced, there are however, a number of different cosmetic procedures and treatments out there, designed to help men and women look youthful, healthy, and invigorated. No doubt, most of you reading this will have heard of a certain beauty procedure known as a face lift.
This is basically a nip and tuck surgery where skin is tightened, and hacked and sliced away from the face, to make it appear youthful looking, and remove wrinkles associated with growing older.
This surgery although pretty effective, can be expensive, and also painful. The good news is that there is a radical relatively new procedure now available, known as a "Vampire face lift".
Now, don't let the name scare you, this isn't a surgery designed to make you look like count Dracula, or any of the other various famous Vampires from common mythology, or Hollywood. It is simply a facial rejuvenation procedure, designed to make you look youthful and healthy.
Why the dramatic name? - It is called a Vampire facelift, because the treatment uses the patient's own blood cells. Plasma found in these blood cells, is injected into the skin in the bags and wrinkles on the face, to give a more youthful looking complexion.
How does it work? - Basically, certain growth factors in our blood, that are responsible for the growth, repair and rejuvenation in our skin, are extracted and spun in a machine for around 10 minutes. This spinning (centrifugal) process separates the red blood cells from the plasma. These growth factors in the plasma are then taken, and injected into your skin.
How effective is it? - Now, as this treatment is still relatively new, results are mixed and varied at best. There is not yet any conclusive proof that this treatment is more effective than the tried and tested methods such as botox. Despite this, the procedure does appear to be growing in popularity so there must be something there, right?
Is it safe? - Many people believe that having this Vampire facelift treatment is safer than botox, or other injections, because the main ingredient came from your body in the first place, your own blood. Despite this, it is worth noting that other artificial ingredients are added to the plasma mixture before it is injected into the problem areas.
How long will results last? - Typically, a plasma rich injection treatment will last around 6 months before patients should think about booking another treatment. Other dermal filler treatments can last around 18 months.
How much does a treatment cost? - The average cost of a treatment is between $1000 - $2500. Which some people may argue, is a lot of money to be spending on a treatment that is not yet properly tried and tested.
What are a few of the advantages of choosing a vampire facelift instead of botox? - There are a number of advantages associated with choosing vampire facelifts instead of other dermal filler injection treatments. Firstly, there is no significant bruising or swelling after each injection as the solution is thin. The treatment is non-invasive, and side effects are extremely mild and minimal at best.
Although results are not yet conclusive, these Vampire facelift procedures are gaining popularity, and there is definitely something there. No matter what your beauty and cosmetic goals may be, always first consult your Dr before undertaking any surgical procedures or treatments.
