Optimizing blog posts and online articles for better performance in search engines starts with proper text formatting – every blogger and every freelance writer who provides online content for other websites should understand the importance of font type and color as well as text structure for his or her SE performance. Knowing the mechanics of online writing is no less important that operating with well-researched keywords, strong and relevant links, or producing quality and unique content overall. So how does it all work exactly?
Learning to write well-optimized web content is a long and multi-fold process, that’s why I will limit myself to one element of SEO writing technique per blog entry.
Optimizing Written Content For Search Engines – Text Structure and SEO
Search engines like simple, easy-to-read structure of written content – crawlers, by applying the rule of readability and relevance, will quickly index articles and render them in appropriate web searches if they are constructed as follows:
• the article is split into multiple parts not longer than 400 words each;
• the article is no shorter than 250 words and no longer than 5000 words;
• each paragraph is introduced by a clear, keyword-rich subheading;
• the subheadings are written in bold font – an easy way for a search engine robot to scan the overall content of an article by looking at the emphasized parts;
• the bold font is not used randomly across the article to emphasize something – that’s what italics is for which is a matter not just of SEO, but also correct editing;
• the font type and color used in the article are consistent;
• font type and color are reader-friendly – articles written in huge, bold, pink font won’t have as good performance as those written in 10-12 Arial black for example;
• font colors are not used in order to “hide” words or links – search bots can easily read and penalize for them;
• visibility of article elements is increased by the use of bulleted or numbered lists.
All of the above will significantly add to the SEO potential of your blog or online article – which is important for your portfolio as a freelance writer for the web. It kind of introduces a whole new way of thinking and planning what you’re going to write about and, most significantly, how – which is why I think it’s only natural to start here – with the structure of an article as it will greatly facilitate keywording, backlinking and creating comprehensive content webs – the ultimate purpose of writing online, after all.
On a last note for today:
Does all this mean that if you don’t apply the above guidelines google will never find you? Of course not. There’s a plethora of excellent websites out there whose webmasters do not use anything even remotely similar to what I’ve just described. Google cares about keywords, links and unique content most of all – but if you don’t know where to start with SEO, or want your keywording and optimizing to flow almost automatically from the structure of your writing – this is the way to go. Needless to say, most online magazines or web content websites for which you’ll be writing will include, with certain variations, everything you read above.Also, all this staff that I mentioned in the article are usefull for buy app installs.
