The Motability scheme is a government backed program to help less able people get around easier. The scheme is available to those receiving the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance. People getting this benefit can use some or all of that allowance to get a brand new car.

With the Motability scheme there are no long waiting lists, no credit checks and no assessments. Benefits of the scheme include:

• Over 4,000 brand new cars to choose from

Insurance, servicing and maintenance

• Full RAC breakdown assistance

• Annual tax disc

• Tyre and windscreen replacement

• 60,000 mileage allowance over 3 years

• Many adaptations at no extra cost

Motability customers can choose between Contract Hire (CH) and Hire Purchase (HP). Contract hire is the most popular as it in essence a worry free leasing deal. If the customer wishes to buy the car outright then of course they can use hire purchase but benefits such as maintenance and insurance are not included.

Nissan, the Japanese car manufacturer is part of the UK Motability Scheme and offers adapted vehicles for its Motability customers. Nissan was one of the early adopters of the scheme therefore has a wealth of experience in the field.

Nissan has specialist Motability centres across the UK including Motability cars Northern Ireland which houses specialists and adapted vehicles for specific needs. There are also usually promotional offers targeted solely at Motability customers, offers such as nil deposit and low monthly payments. Nissan promote the government’s ambitions of ensuring everyone is mobile.
