A couple days ago I attended a meeting and a light bulb suddenly went off in my head. One of those “Aha” moments, you know what I mean? As I looked around the room I saw many people with a common goal, to become financially wealthy. Needless to say there is nothing wrong with the desire to become financially wealthy; it was the behaviors I observed over the next hour that were so interesting to me.
To me, having the desire to become financially wealthy says that you are not financially wealthy at this given moment. So if you would like to achieve the outcome, having an opportunity to learn from someone that has spent their life studying successful minds would be valuable, right? Even better, imagine gaining clarity on what stands between where you are now and where you would like to be. You’re probably saying to yourself, where do I sign up? That was exactly what my response would be!
So being the human scientist that I am, I decided to experiment. And here is what happened. I made an offer to the group, one session with me absolutely FREE. All they had to do was call me and schedule the time. Seems pretty simple, like a no brainer. The results however, to me were phenomenal. Out of the whole group, about 30 people total, only ONE even approached me! He was interested in learning more information.
You might be saying to yourself, Larry, maybe no one truly knew you or believed you could help. And you could be correct. Here is an interesting fact though. I recently heard from Blair Singer, a nationally known business owner and sales trainer. During some of his trainings he makes a similar offer. Occasionally he gives away a one-hour coaching session, with him, when you buy one of his packages. His billing rate by the way is $1795 per hour. Funny thing is, he gets the same results! Can you believe it? One in 500 actually make the appointment! My one in 30 result seemed pretty good after hearing this!
Blair’s office follows up with clients that purchase the package and receive the free hour. They go out of their way to make sure the offer is fulfilled. Even more mind-boggling is this, when they make this offer, their sales increase. This is important to understand. Making the offer increases the sale, which says that people are buying because of the added bonus although they never take him up on the offer.
OK, so here is the amazing conclusion.
Most people truly do not want to do the work it takes to change, even if they think they want to.
I believe they want to achieve their outcomes and to change, although they are lost inside of their limitation and the boundaries of their mind. It does take work to change. It does take work to be financial wealthy.
Looking over what I observed it is understandable that so many of us never get what we desire to have. What gets me though is that in today’s world, with all the information that is at our fingertips, why so many choose to stay stuck where they are. I know from personal experience that changing oneself is probably the most challenging work one can set out to accomplish. As with all hard work though, the reward that comes from your own self development is well worth the hardship.
