For many years I thought my real spiritual work would begin once I was fully healed. What I didn’t understand was that my self-healing was my spiritual path.

It wasn’t that I needed to get better and then I would have the energy to devote to my spiritual awakening. It was the other way around.

Discovering my unique spiritual gifts—and learning how to apply them in every area of my life including my healing and awakening—was the journey. In fact, much of my awakening has taken place as I have been focused on self-healing!

I once used my vocal abilities on stage as a performer. I was good and I loved it. But when I had a dream that showed me the physical challenges I was facing were the result of MS, I developed a deeper commitment to singing for healing.

That kind of singing requires a very different skill set than I used as a performer. Some of the sweetest moments of Divine awareness and bliss have occurred as I linger in one perfect sound of love, with the intention of healing myself or someone else.

And as you know, sound medicine is fundamental to what I am here to offer to the world.

This is true for you too. Your reason for being here and what you need to do for your healing are entwined. In order for you to heal, your physical challenges require you to know your true self and apply your awakened awareness to the care of your body, mind and emotions.

Consider becoming a treasure hunter of you! You might even use the Behavioral Chart I recommend in Chapter One of The Root of All Healing to observe when you feel particularly well and spiritually alive. Take note of these special moments and what you have done, felt or thought about that led up to those moments.

Consider really paying attention to what you day-dream about. Your day-dreams can provide you with clues about what is really important to you, what you are capable of being and doing, and spiritual gifts that are just waiting to be tapped.

Then, let your day-dreams rest for a while and put those desires into motion, one step at a time. Perhaps you will decide to hold a new intention, put yourself into a new environment, or study something that has always intrigued you.

When your life force is stimulated, your healing gifts are stimulated too. As your inspiration and creativity get more traction in the world you have more motivation and energy to heal.
