I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for. ~ Georgia O'Keeffe

Have you identified a color palette that is “you?” Do you strive to show your personality through the choices you make for your home’s décor? Are there colors that look better with your shade of skin, and are those colors also in your home’s décor?

Your Personality

There are many ways to measure your personality type, and most of them can be found on the internet by typing in “identify personality types.” There is the Myers-Briggs assessment. There are the four Social Styles. Carl Jung, the famous psychologist, determined that there were two types: sensing or thinking.

However you determine what your personality type is, once you discover it, you will begin to see it reflected in the choices you make in your clothing, the color of your car, and the way you decorate your office cubicle or your home. The “you” of “you” reflects itself forth from inside of you to all the outside areas in which you live, and move and enjoy your being.

Does Color Play a Role?
In the 1980’s, a book called Color Me Beautiful was written to help people determine what color palette best suited them. The philosophy behind choosing colors, as it turns out, runs a parallel in some ways with one’s personality.

For example: I have a friend who’s personality type on the Myers-Briggs test is ENTJ. She is an executive – assertive and outspoken, driven to lead and solve problems. In the Color Me Beautiful book, she is a Winter. She loves bold jewel toned colors and she uses them in her wardrobe and in her home. Can you see the parallels?

What is Your Color?

Here are the four color types. I’ll tell you what they are and see if you can identify with one of them more than the others.
• SPRING: Warm yellow with a fresh, light, energetic feeling.
• SUMMER: Cool, blue/pink that is gentle, refined and almost translucent in feeling.
• AUTUMN: Yellow again only this time deeper, richer and stronger than spring.
• WINTER: Cool, blue/pink that is striking, dramatic and rather electric.
I’m quite confident you have a lot of those colors in your closet and throughout your home already. And if you don’t, you can use this as a guide to making changes in your wardrobe and your home décor.

Home Décor Personality Type

Another tool to determine your preferred home décor style fits into these kinds of categories: a modern diva, flea market femme, traditional lady, or global maven. We are so blessed to find quizzes to determine our home décor personality online and there, you will discover which one you might be. An associate of mine discovered she was a Flea Market Femme, treasuring flea market finds, pastel-color walls, and vintage prints. She loved country chic inspiration.

Another quiz showed us these four types of home décor personality:

Sophisticated Classic: You’re drawn to timeless pieces and luxe materials. You love rooms that offer an elegant blend of refined traditional furniture, jewelry-like accessories, and pale hues, pairing patrician old-world elements with cleaner Art Deco shapes. The look evokes a more formal lifestyle.

Modern Graphic: You’re into color, contrast, and clean lines—a fresh, fun, contemporary look that combines urban styling (like a downtown loft) with edgy, colorful elements and midcentury design. You prefer simple furniture forms that balance out bold accents and patterns.

Cozy Casual: You’re about comfort and warmth, favoring warm, traditional rooms made for relaxing with family and friends. Your ideal decor draws on English and early-American furniture designs, as well as laid-back country, cottage, and farmhouse styles. Weathered, low-maintenance furnishings are easy, inviting, and built for daily life.

Vintage Eclectic: You go for history, quirks, and curves. A rich, layered look combining flea-market finds, furniture designs from various time periods, and a diverse collection of accessories and artwork appeals to you. Dusty colors, timeworn or handmade textiles, and collected objects create a lived-in feel.

Why bother discovering what your personality type is and what your personal décor preferences are? One Main Thing: you are a busy mom, juggling lots of tasks, measuring up to a myriad of expectations, and your most valuable commodity is TIME.

Knowing what your personality type is and your personal décor preferences are and what your color type is will save you TONS OF TIME! Picture yourself in a department store with racks and racks of clothing. If you know your color, you can by-pass looking at 75% of the clothing, zeroing in on only those colors you know work for you. And the same thing happens with style for décor. Once you know your preference, you can focus immediately on what you prefer and ignore all the rest. Busy moms are well served to know about and to use these cool tools!

Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises. ~ Pedro Calderon de la Barca
