College Of The Marshall Islands Information

College of the Marshall Islands is regionally qualified independent community college that offers high school equivalent, student development, community extension, certificates as well as associate degrees in computer and business studies, sciences and liberal arts, nursing and elementary education. Micronesian region is nominated as post-secondary institute for Republic of the Marshall Islands nationally and this college serves the primarily students of this region. The College of the Marshall Islands is fully qualified by Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges for Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The College of the Marshall Islands is totally governed by Board of Regents, RMI cabinet appoint the Board of Regents. The Board of Regents makes policies as well as appoints the President. The President is fully responsible for all the general administration and operation of the College of Marshall Islands.

The major campus of this college is situated in Uliga, Majuro Atoll. The Library and the College Administration Offices are placed in those buildings, which are earlier used as classrooms and hospitals. In 1991, the building comprised of two-story was completed and has a four-classroom addition in 1996. This building contains the College Achievement Project Learning Lab, the Student Center, and the Business Computer Lab, for quiet relaxation and study. Adjoining building house are PEACESAT administration and Land Grant Cooperative Research and Extension Programs, Upward Bound and College Achievement Project.

1999-2000 was an academic period of enormous campus growth as well as development. The two-story complex for science was completed in the mid of 2000, with the addition of three new large classrooms, a lab for Science Computer, and research room for science which consists of Agricultural Grow room. Beyond the women and men’s dormitories there is an Administration Annex, which includes the facilities and Maintenance Office, Personnel and the Personnel Conference Room. Oscar deBrum Hall, developed again as well as named in 1999, quarters were given to Continuing Education programs along with faculty offices resting on the first and second floor respectively. The grounds of the college were also increased during this time by the substitution of a huge service-road area by the grassy area as well as lane that is in middle of the academy’s flagpole.

In customary Marshallese society, youngsters learn concepts, essential skills, and attitudes by direct involvement in the company of community and family. Students with special skills and knowledge are trained separately to preserve the talent as well as cultural knowledge.
