Energy Healing and Energy Medicine
9 Ways To Identify An Unhealthy Environment
By Nigel Percy
May 16, 2008

Your unseen environment has a huge impact on your health and well-being.

It is important to be aware of what this invisible noxious or detrimental energy can do to you. One of the common terms for it is Geopathic Stress (GS). The word really means something like suffering caused by the Earth and covers a wide range of possible causes.

What is GS?
Unfortunately, there is no one clear answer to this. Underground water, fault lines, natural and man made radiation and so on all contribute to the symptoms.

Think of GS as like a dripping tap in a bucket. The bucket represents your health. The dripping tap represents the GS in the environment. At some point, the tap will fill up the bucket and overflow (you become ill).

But, as each person’s ‘bucket of health’ is at a different level and of a different size, and the tap drips at different rates, it is not easy to say when anyone will exhibit symptoms or even what those symptoms might be.

So let’s begin by looking at how you can determine whether you have GS in your home and whether it is affecting you adversely.

Changes in health.
Has your health changed since moving? Has it become worse or have you been plagued by a lot of low-level stuff which just doesn't clear up? It would help if you knew if similar serious illnesses were present in the previous owners’ family. Frequently, houses exhibiting serious GS problems have a history of severe illnesses in them.

Plants and other growing things.
These are generally good indicators of GS in your vicinity. If you have areas where, despite your best efforts, plants just die off or remain straggly and obviously not thriving, that is a good indicator of a line of GS. It could be a clear line through the plants or a dead spot in your hedge. Trees can also show a tendency to lean and twist away from such places.

Animals
Animals are far more sensitive than humans in reacting to GS. Dogs and horses are useful indicators. Cats, on the other hand, are not affected by GS which would be negative for humans.

Observe where your cats and dogs prefer to sleep, or where they avoid resting for any length of time. Similarly, horses will easily show you where lines or spots of energy are to be found because they will swerve to avoid them when walking, or simply not go into such areas

Hot or Cold Spots.
You might find there are inexplicable areas which are of a different temperature than the surroundings. Usually, such areas are not particularly large, not much more than two or three feet across. That can make them awkward to spot unless they happen to coincide with a particular part of the house where you tend to spend some time. Areas like near your favorite chair, or in the kitchen perhaps.

Quite often, these spots are places you tend to want to get out of quite quickly. Therefore keep aware of your feelings as well, as they can often lead you to places like these.

Unexplained Feelings.
These feelings are most often described as if someone or something was watching you. Some clients have even said that they have seen a pair of eyes at night when it is dark. It may be that there are accompanying smells or scents, although that is rare.

The most common comment is that it feels as if something is there that's not wanted.

Unable to rest or relax.
This one is quite common, especially being able to sleep better away from home. As you tend to spend a large part of each day in bed, then any GS affecting that is going to show up more clearly. You might feel very tired upon going to bed, but can’t sleep. It could be that you are extremely restless in bed, keep waking or you wake in the morning feeling always very tired.

You should obviously rule out any stress issues which are specific to your home. Other family members, your job or neighbors can all contribute to poor sleep and inability to relax well.

A young child or a baby are both excellent indicators of GS. They will tend to move in their sleep so that they are positioned away from the area. Therefore, if your child always seems to end up sleeping across the pillow, or scrunched up at the foot of the bed, chances are there is some GS there which he or she is trying to avoid.

EMF.
Strictly speaking, these are not the same as GS. The letters EMF stand for Electro-Magnetic Fields. Such fields are generated by electrical appliances and wiring and are present, to a greater or lesser extent, in every home.

It is each person’s sensitivity (which is different) which is important here.

However, you would be well advised to keep in mind the analogy of the dripping tap and bucket. For example, suppose you have a TV and a clock radio alarm by your bed. Each puts out a measurable electric field in which you sleep each night. Continued exposure can have a variety of effects, ranging from disturbed sleep to headaches to general lethargy to serious illness. You would be well-advised to get rid of or unplug bedside appliances which send out EMF’s.

Also, do not overlook EMF’s from external sources such as pylons, substations and transformers. Each of those can have marked effects on individuals of sufficient sensitivity.

Wildlife.
If you happen to live in an area of the country where you can expect to see wildlife, but there is little or none at all visible, despite putting out food or other attractions, then this might also be an indicator of GS.

If you live in a more urban setting, you can still have an indicator by watching for bird life. Frequently, such animals will avoid areas which are noxious to humans. Putting food out and watching for them is one way of checking.

Your own reactions.
In the end, the most reliable indicator is yourself. Observing how you feel about your home and the way it feels is perhaps the most useful indicator of all. When trying to sense this, make it easier. Sit in your home late at night when it is at its most quiet. Then just relax and see how you feel about the home. Does it feel safe, comforting, pleasant to be in? Or do you feel nervous and uneasy or wanting to shut yourself in your bedroom?

Is it somewhere between these two? Ideally, every home should feel safe, secure, welcoming, comforting and comfortable. If it is not and you cannot account for that lack in any other way, then consider the possibility that you are suffering from GS.

Now What?
Let us assume that you have gone through this checklist and the results seem to indicate that you are suffering, to a greater or lesser degree, from GS in one form or another. So, what do you do?

First, assess how much the GS is affecting you. The vast majority of homes have GS to some extent. Because of the differing sensitivities of the inhabitants, it is not possible to offer a chart which says, “if you have x amount of GS from these indicators, you must have your space cleared”.

What you must decide for yourself (and your family, if applicable) is whether or not the level of GS is tolerable to you. If it is, then simply carry on as normal but keep checking back, because the likelihood is that, over time, the symptoms will begin to increase until they are at an unpleasant or intolerable level.

If, on the other hand, you feel that, now you have finally identified what has been causing all the problems, you need to deal with it. There are many ways of approaching this task; some you can do yourself, and some require professional help. But make the decision now to make your environment better!
