Self Recognition
By William Hodgetts

Every soul in existence is self aware. They are aware that they exist and are living. The important thing to remember is that there are different levels of self awareness. For instance, self awareness can include, ‘I am a mind and a physical body, we are one’, or ‘I am a mind and a physical body, but sometimes I feel that I am only mind, separate from the body and the world. In this state, your self awareness becomes so acute that it becomes self recognition.
‘I’ is the recognition of your self existence, the centre of your soul, your seat of life.
You can never look at your self awareness, you can only feel it. You can look into your soul, but you can never see its centre, because you are that centre. Awareness can only ever look outward. The eye can never look back beyond itself.
The ‘I’ is the centre of your existence. Everything else that you perceive is outside of this centre. There is always a space between that which is perceived and the perceiver.
Take a look at something that is several feet away.
Now look at something close,
Now look at your hand,
Now place a finger just in front of your eye.
Do you see the space between?
All of these things are outside of you; each one is closer to you.
Now close your eyes and think what you did yesterday. You are now looking out and into your memories. Do you see that these memories are seen, not in the world, but within your soul and yet outside your centre of awareness?
Now think of this: You are sitting on a park bench and a bird lands at your feet. It has two heads, on one head is a golden crown and on the other is a silver one. Can you see it?
What you have just done is take parts that were stored in your memory and created a brand new image. You then saw the image, but where? Do you realise that it was between you and the outside world, in the place that was not of the world?
Imagine that you are a spark in the centre of a bubble. You are the spark of life, and between you and the surface of the bubble is your domain; it is your Kingdom where you reign supreme. Nothing is done in your Kingdom except by your own will. It is a domain given to you by the source, the Creator, GOD. It is a part of GOD’S Kingdom gifted to you for eternity. Were you not told; ‘The Kingdom of Heaven is within you?’
When you came into the world, your Kingdom was pure and without worldly knowledge. Your book of life had been turned to a new page, not yet written on by experiences and choices, and your previous pages were sealed even unto you.
Waiting for you, was a world full of souls whose domains were already poisoned by wrong beliefs, and in your innocence you followed as they had done. Belief is not truth. Truth is that which ends conflict and suffering. Love is Truth; it removes all poison from your domain. Love is the only way back to innocence; back to the garden of peace and purity.
