Be Your Own Best Coach

“I can do anything. I can be anything. No one ever told me I couldn’t. No one ever expressed this idea that I was limited to any one thing, so I think in terms of what’s possible, not impossible.” Whoopi Goldberg
If you don’t have a personal trainer or coach, walking you through your daily life, then you can be your own best coach! As someone who is cheering you on to achieve every single one of your heart’s desires (imagine me jumping up and down with pom poms), it all starts with your beliefs. Since much of the world suffers from low self-value, I want you to realize how amazing and remarkable you are. You have more potential in your baby finger than you can ever imagine! Your life is waiting to be molded by you and your thoughts...
As a former police officer and worker with child protection services, young people who have become involved with the law, soup kitchens, food banks, and affordable housing complexes, one of the main things that my clients have had in common is the belief that they are not good enough. For whatever reason, they bought into a story that lead them to grow up thinking that they couldn’t measure up, that they weren’t loved, or that they were a burden.
Since most of us have some form of family trauma, crisis, or dysfunction in our past, there are plenty of reasons why individuals have every excuse not to live their full potential. Some examples include: death of loved ones, illness, foster care, alcoholism, drug addictions, gambling, divorce, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, bullying, poverty, abandonment, or never being able to live up to the expectations of parents and care givers.
Our adult lives are shaped from our primary experiences as a child and we form relationships with ourselves and others, on the basis of the beliefs that we develop. If you are not getting the results that you want in your life, in any area, then the cause can likely be found in your belief system. It is worth examining your thought process, because all of our actions stem from our thoughts and words (and those stories that have replayed over and over in our heads).
Ever heard someone say, “I’ll never be able to do this”, “this is too hard”, “I always mess up”, “things always go wrong”, “this is useless”, “I can’t”???? These are all statements that represent a belief system that will always work against that person. If you want to see results in your life, in any area, then the results begin with the self-talk and words that you are telling yourself.
Some healthier and more effective statements can look like: “One step at a time”, “I can do this”, “Eventually, I will get there”, “I can”. Since no one can make any changes in your life, other than you, it is worth being a good coach to yourself. Most of us, scattered across the country, don’t have personal trainers that encourage and motivate us on a daily basis - we’re it!!! Imagine that you are being a world-class coach to yourself and watch how your words change...
Three tips to help you be a wonderful inspiration to yourself are:
1. Carefully Monitor the Words You Are Telling Yourself (In Your Head or Out Loud)
2. Decide that You Will Only Use Words (In Your Head or Out Loud) That Are Supportive
3. Imagine That Every One of Your Words (In Your Head or Out Loud) Are Molding Your Results (because they are!!!)
You deserve to achieve all of your goals, have the health that you crave, have meaningful relationships, and feel a sense of fulfillment. You can have it all, if you are your own best coach!! Wishing you an amazing, wonderful, positive, and productive journey ahead...
