Affirmations and Positive Affirmations
Affirmation Process

Have you ever wondered WHY the affirmation process works? That is an important question, but a tough one to work out. There are people who only care that affirmations DO work and never question the why of it. Still others do want to know why there is so much power in affirmations.

Practicing affirmations means that you are reprogramming your thoughts to work in a very specific way. To really understand this, you have to know that your mind has two distinct parts. The part of your mind that directs the every day stuff is your conscious mind. Your conscious mind is where you inner monologue takes place. You have control over your conscious mind and your thoughts. The conscious mind directs your physical self in the world.

The other part of your mind is your subconscious mind. This part of your mind is more in tune with things other than the physical world. This is where your emotions reside. Your subconscious runs in the background without your having to do anything and without you having any control. However, it does respond according to how your mind has been programmed. Programming is what happens as you grow up and gain experience. When you have an urge to do something and you really do not know why, that is an example of your subconscious mind at work.

Okay, so what does all that have to do with the affirmation process? Your conscious mind has control of your every day life. Your subconscious mind controls how your life goes and who you are. So, to get the subconscious mind to direct your life in the manner you want, you have to do some reprogramming. The reprogramming can happen with the help of affirmations!

Here is how that works. When you are told (or you tell yourself) something over and over, it becomes embedded in your subconscious. Everything in your life up to this point has been a matter of programming. The way you act in the world, things that happen to you, all of these things get repeated over and over until they are part of your subconscious and, in essence, part of who you are. Perhaps when you were little and you had done a really good job on something or had gotten a good grade in school, your reward was something sweet. If this happened enough times as you were growing up, you have a propensity to reward yourself with goodies when something good happens. It is now part of your subconscious programming. This particular connection will not be a good thing if you are prone to gain weight.

Attitudes and beliefs are subject to programming as well. What is your attitude toward abundance? If you were told as a child that "money is the root of all evil" your subconscious mind believes it. In your conscious mind you may think that belief is ridiculous, but the programming of your subconscious is more powerful. Your subconscious will therefore do everything to sabotage your efforts to attract abundance.

This is where affirmations can begin to change your behavior, attitudes and beliefs. If you change your programming, you will change your entire life. Repeating affirmations on the things you want to change will cause your subconscious to be reprogrammed. Once it becomes a part of you, the life you want is within reach.
