WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT CONFERENCE

The BLUSH Initiative, created by beauty consultant andentrepreneur, Frankie Lezlee Bethea (Frankie B), in conjunction with renownedmedia personality, medical doctor, and motivational speaker, Dr. AndreaPennington of the I Love You, Me! Women’sEmpowerment Project, will host the I Love You, Me! Women’s EmpowermentConference on August 5-9, 2009 at the Marriott Hotel, 12th and H Streets,NW, Washington, DC and the Howard University BlackburnCenter Ballroom.

Statistics show that 43% of the homeless population are women andthat 22% of homeless women claim domestic abuse as their reason forhomelessness.

The conference will bringtogether women who were domestically abused and homeless in three days ofmotivational seminars, beauty makeover treatments, and inspirationalentertainment to assist them in getting their lives back on track. Fifteen women from Washington, DC'sRachel's Women's Center will be the special conference guests.

Dr. Pennington isa radio host and the former medical director and spokesperson for DiscoveryHealth Channel and Discovery Health Online. Dr. Pennington hasassisted women in exploring ways to release themselves from personal trauma formore than a decade. She has beenfeatured on CNN, Fox News, the TodayShow, the Early Show – CBS, and Oprah. She launched the “I Love You, Me! Women’sEmpowerment Project with singer-songwriter, Meritxell, the new ‘Peaches’ of legendary combo Peaches and Herb. “I Love You, Me!” isan Empowerment Project for women including inspirational music, live events, and a blog.

“Beauty and empowerment are more than skin deep. Thiscollaboration is the culmination of a lifetime of inspiring women to lovethemselves, nurture themselves and express themselves authentically,” Dr.Pennington explains.

“I am so excited about this opportunity to affect the lives ofwomen who so desperately need a voice for their deep seated lack of self loveand esteem, as well as their victimization from so many societal influences.The seminar will hopefully address some of these concerns,” states FrankieB. Frankie established the BLUSH Initiative in2008 in recognition that women of every background have a deeper need fordevelopment of their inner beauty and self confidence.

The conference will include empowerment sessions led by Dr.Pennington, motivational speakers Danette Boone, Denise Hart, AntoinetteMensah, as well as entertainment from Meritxell and Ski Johnson, whose jazzalbum is number three on the Billboard chart. The empowerment conference willfeature a kick-off event in mid July where one lucky individual will be given anall-expense-paid trip for a weekend of renewal in Washington, DC. A clothing drive, beginning on July 1, in the Washington, DCmetropolitan area, will provide clothing for the Rachel's Center conferenceparticipants.
