As you read about the ancient Chinese Medicine you'll discover that although it is less analytical than our Western Medicine, it is brilliant in its unifying logic.

Traditional Chinese Medicine describes health and illness in relation to the natural laws operating in the mysterious intermingling of 'heaven, earth and man'. Tao, the Way of balancing Yin and Yang is present in even in quantum objects of life, and its power is here for us to use when the laws are understood.

The profound knowledge presented in 'Huang Di Nei Jing' (Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine) is a summary of medical knowledge and practice up to 500-300 BC when it was compiled by unknown authors.

It carries a wholistic message. In order to completely heal a person, acupuncture, herbs and other modalities are only parts of the treatment. Through integration of the body, mind and spirit we gain the necessary 'confidence to conquer illness'.

Nei Jing says, "When people lack the confidence to conquer illness, they allow the spirit to scatter and wither away. They let their emotions take control of their lives. They spend their days drowned in desires and worries, exhausting their Jing essence, their Chi and Shen spirit. Of course then, even with these other modalities, the disease will not be cured."

Instructions were given on how to clear the energy systems of the body in order to unify its function with the laws of nature and the greater cosmos. Helping the person toward 'Tao of Health', even to inspire him/her to work toward longevity and the glorious destiny of enlightenment, a birthright of every human being, was an important aspect of acupuncture doctor's work.
