Imagine this, over a 6 year period, I lost my 21year old son, my unborn baby girl in my 8th month of pregnancy, 2brothers to AIDS, and my father. I could have given up, felt sorry formyself, made it about me, instead I asked myself what each one of themwould have wanted for me, and that was to live a life of courage, toencourage others, to have a wonderful life. Today I live in Laguna Beach, California with Cody, my awesome husband of 22 years, who walked this journey withme, lending me strength and courage every step of the way. Cody and Ilive such a blessed and incredible life together. I know that I havecome through all of this more courageous, stronger, able to cope withlife in a much more powerful way because of the lessons learned alongthe way.
Since the beginning of time, there have been storiesof courage. We have all read many books, seen movies that inspire orencourage us to the depths of our soul, been around people who we lookat with wonder because of the courageous things they have done.Sometimes it is something very simple, yet so profound that changes ourday, sometimes it is more than we can wrap our minds around. Whateverit is that shakes us up and out of old negative patterns we wish tobreak, should be welcomed with open arms. Life is supposed to be all we have forgotten it can be.
Peace be with you as I leave you with my definition of Courage. Debra Oakland
I was thinking about Courage. Huge subject, but this is what came to me while mulling it over.
Courage is the will to act upon the strength and power within the Heart.Courage is not something you can have, it is something you become. Tolive a courageous life takes place in a person when they allow the trueessence of who they are to rise up and shine for all the world to see. Fearlessof opinion. Those courageous individuals who are true to themselvesfeel a powerful resolve that is unshakable. A true conviction ofpurpose to carry on in the face of any challenge. To stand in power ofpurpose is a pure point of courage, available to everyone who cares toutilize it in their life. The unfoldment brings forward the power alivewithin. This point of power has been diminished greatly and whenawakened can shatter the fear of moving forward toward the intention orgoal. Greatness arises from mediocrity. One or more lives are alteredas awareness shifts to possibility and progress. Great is the union ofcourage and honor - a great gift within the heart of every human soul.

“I have known Debra Oakland through most of the years when she faced the
fearful situations she describes in her book. Her courage, and the courage of
her husband Cody, have been undeniable and inspiring. And a few years
ago, when I was faced with a life-altering medical challenge, and was afraid,
she offered her support and compassion and prayers to me. And I was less
afraid, and I survived, and I am grateful. Debra does the things she tells us
we can do. She knows whereof she speaks. If courage is contagious, Debra
is a carrier. Her book is a valuable souvenir of times past, and a reassuring
guide through times to come. Please read it; we will all be better for it!”

10.But today our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change. The large house in which we live demands that we transform this world-wide neighborhood into a world - wide brotherhood. Together we must learn to live as brothers or together we will be forced to perish as fools.
We must work passionately and indefatigably to bridge the gulf between our scientific progress and our moral progress. One of the great problems of mankind is that we suffer from a poverty of the spirit which stands in glaring contrast to our scientific and technological abundance. The richer we have become materially, the poorer we have become morally and spiritually.
~ Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
