Heather Hummel is an author who specializes in the connection of Body, Mind, & Soul. She is also a writing coach who works with clients who need a hand polishing their manuscripts, writing query letters and book proposals, and contacting agents. Many writers are rejected by agents because they do not understand or properly follow the submission guidelines, they contact agents who do not specialize in their genre, or their work simply has errors that may not stand out to them after hours of looking at it, but to the agent it glares "unprofessional." Heather works with clients to hurdle over these obstacles and find their way into the publishing world.
Heather also teaches writing classes in Charlottesville and is an active member of the International Women's Writing Guild. She will be a guest author at their October, 2008 Big Apple conference.
Heather's published works include Gracefully: Looking and Being Your Best at Any Age (McGraw Hill, 2008), Blue Ridge Anthology (along with David Baldacci and Rita Dove), Bridges: An Anthology, Albemarle Family Living, and Messages of Hope and Healing. She has finished her first two novels, The Universe is My Sugar Daddy and Through Hazel Eyes, and is working on her next nonfiction book, Over Coffee: Friendships.
Heather is a graduate of the University of Virginia with concentrations in English and secondary education. For mor information, visit her website at www.heatherhummel.net

"When the student is ready, the teacher will come." - Zen Proverb
As a writing coach, Heather Hummel finds that the students who are drawn to her are the ones who are most serious about accomplishing their dream of being a published author. Their vision is clear, their work is ready to be looked at or considered, yet they still need guidance to cross the bridge from unpublished to published.
Heather provides that bridge by working with clients on perfecting their manuscript, preparing query letters, writing book proposals, and contacting agents.
Heather Hummel's published works include: essays (Messages of Hope and Healing), short stories ("Heart Strings" in Blue Ridge Anthology alongside David Baldacci and Rita Dove), feature articles, and most recently, a nonfiction book (Gracefully: Looking and Being Your Best at Any Age - McGraw Hill).
Heather's diverse background makes her knowledgeable in all areas of writing. Previously an English teacher, her editing and writing coach clients benefit from her "teacher" experience as well.
Testimonials:
"Special Thanks: Patriots for Hire grew as
small seed that was planted by two US contractors as their living testament to
their experiences during a unique time in history and warfare. This seed was
nurtured with the support and passion of others who believed in us and supported
our dreams and hopes along the way. Special thanks to Heather Hummel, who not
only acted as our editor, but also as a friend during times of doubt and
hardship."

After writing three novels, I knew I had the talent to
become a professional author. What I didn't have was the guiding hand of a
professional who knew the ropes. Then I met Heather Hummel. Not only did Heather
breath new life into my manuscripts, she helped me to become a better writer.
Her eye for detail is remarkable, her personality inspiring and infectious. Her
critiques are detailed and honest. After working with Heather I gained more than
just a writing coach...I made a great friend. If you are trying to get serious
about your career as a writer, you simply must take the time to meet this
remarkable woman.

Heather is a dream resource for writers. Heather Hummel's
name should crop up first on the Google search for: PERSON WHO WILL SHOW YOU HOW
YOU TOO CAN BECOME A SUCCESSFUL WRITER. If you're like many of us, the good idea
for the book and the actual writing seem easy compared to the daunting tasks of
writing the query and proposal and then approaching literary agents. But Heather
knows from personal experience how to do this successfully, and is unstinting
and supportive about sharing her hard earned knowledge with her fellow
writers.

An accomplished literary writer told me that once you finish your novel only
half of your work is complete. Now you must be just as ambitious in selling what
you spent so many years creating. Heather Hummel went a long
way toward eliminating the publishing obstacles while shedding light on what
must be done in order to become a successful writer. She used her editorial
expertise to mold my manuscript into something both technically sound and
creatively on point with what the publishing world is looking for in today's
ultra-competitive marketplace. Heather exceeded my expectations as an editor,
becoming a writing coach, mentor and close friend along the way. If you want
your manuscript to reach its full potential and if you are ready to build a
platform that will enable you to breakout as an author, Heather
Hummel will help you realize these goals and more. Of that I am
certain.
