The people who attend networking events are salespeople; and they are there (like you) to make sales NOT to buy anything. Moreover, they have no authority to buy from you either! So, YOU waste a stack of time speaking with people with no need, no desire and no authority to buy!
SPEED NETWORKING IS A CRY FOR HELP
Sales success comes from forming good quality relationships with influential people. Not from speaking as quickly as you possibly can, to a total stranger for few minutes! By the way - the salesperson you are speaking with is not listening to you; they are preparing their own speech! Not that this matters, as they have no authority to buy in any case!
MANY COMMON MARKETING BELIEFS ARE WRONG
For example, your product or service does NOT need a 'USP'!
People buy a product or service based on benefits and not features; a USP is just a feature. For example:
A feature of chocolate is that it is has lots of calories.
A benefit of chocolate is that it tastes great.
People buy it for the taste (benefit) - not the calories (feature).
A USP is a feature; something unique, but not necessarily of any benefit or value to anyone. This is the core problem with the USP myth; ‘unique’ does not necessarily mean ‘valuable’ and your potential clients or customers are looking for, (and are attracted to), value.
