Mr. Klemens is an accomplished writer and practicing pharmacist. He is the Pharmacy Director at the Butler VA Medical Center, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy, Adjunct Instructor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, and Instructor at the Butler County Community College.
He is also a Fellow of the American Association of Integrative Medicine, a Diplomate of the College of Herbal Medicine, member of Herb Research Foundation, freelance writer, and the author of Mountains and Rivers: Complementing Your Healthcare with Alternative Medicine. This book was selected as a requisite text for a Duquesne University School of Pharmacy class. His most recent work, “Quick Guide to Common Herb and Supplement Side Effects and Interactions,” is used as a reference in retail pharmacies, medical centers, and schools of pharmacy.
Mr. Klemens is a Pittsburgh native who has practiced in clinical settings at various Western PA medical centers and, as a former co-owner of two successful pharmacies, also has experience in retail and consulting practice. As an accomplished versatile writer he has published over thirty-five articles in local, national, and international magazines, and web sites Topics include oriental medicine, complementary and alternative medicine, psychotropic herbs, health and wellness, sports medicine, and leadership and ethics. In 2000, he was a Contributing Writer for the “Pittsburgh Northside Magazine” and “Pennsylvania Health & Fitness.” He has made numerous public and professional presentations including lectures for Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Wisconsin, Duquesne University, and the PA Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
His education includes degrees in biology (emphasis in endocrinology and neurobiology), pharmacy, and a Master’s Degree in Leadership and Business Ethics, from Duquesne University. He is also experienced in Qi Gong, Tai Chi Chuan, Shotokan Katare, Kendo, Hapkido, and Taekwon-do (Black Belt).
Mr. Klemens is a member of numerous professional organizations including the Herb Research Foundation, Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists, the Center for Creative Leadership, the Institute for Global Ethics, and the Scottish Genealogy Society. He is also listed in the Marquis Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in Medicine, Healthcare, and Education and is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.
