Massage Therapy Careers are one of the up and coming careers of 2011 with expansive growth expected in the next 5 years. As a massage therapist since 1987, I have found the career to be very rewarding yet very challenging. The demands of building a business and of finding high paying jobs are constantly on most massage therapists minds.
Through the many years of doing massage, I have found that it isn't so much about helping others as it is about taking care of myself. I learned that the hard way through experiencing many health challenges and burnout from helping too much and not making enough money for doing just that. As a result of my burnout, I started writing and creating websites for the massage profession. My first website - www.thebodyworker.com is just a collection of my notes from massage school. I had started collecting information to try to create an apprenticeship program, but never went through with the program. The result was putting all the info into a website.
As I learned more about writing and creating websites, I found that I could share my knowledge and story with other massage therapists and help others who are just starting out in thinking about becoming a massage therapist. Massage businesses often struggle due to issues of integrity between the owners values and the work that is being done.
