Composer/pianist Kate Moody has been studying spiritual philosophy and practicing meditation since 1995, with formal studies at the Nityananda Institute (Portland, Oregon) from 1997 to 2005. Her draw to meditation grew out of the sense of musical energy coming through her and the need to clear any blocks that might be holding it back. A lucky byproduct of being a spiritually-inspired composer is an innate understanding of the nature of vibration, which is the basis of the healing visualizations, Connect the Dots, Brain Glow and Being Glow, which are taught at the Music and Meditation Workshops. The music deepens and enhances the meditations; the meditations enhance the reception of the beauty and healing qualities of the music.
Kate’s recent CD releases include The Seeker, an album of orchestral music, named Best Instrumental Album at the 2004 Just Plain Folks Music Awards, and Welcome to Piania, a musical journey of evocative solo piano pieces. The Seeker is a symphony in four movements: Wake-up Call, River of Love, Angels & Eskimos, and Shining Through. The CD, recorded at Capitol Studios, also features George Doering on Fantasy for Electric Guitar & Orchestra. Kate’s most recent solo piano CD, inscapes, was released in October, 2007. She wrote and performed the soundtrack for the Prenatal Yoga Instructional DVD Series from Rudra Press.
Moody performs solo and ensemble concerts throughout the country and also presents workshops of Music and Meditation where she teaches “Connect the Dots,” a series of meditative visualizations for healing and well-being.
Moody teaches piano and composition in Kula, Hawaii. She presents workshops for teachers about teaching composition and notation to beginning music students, a method which helps develop creative skills and makes music theory relevant. She also directs “Create Your Own Musical” workshops for children.
“Moody brings vast musical experience as well as knowledge to her music, making it
much more than pop or background music while staying accessible and easy to grasp. Emotionally rich and full of grace, the music is soothing and calming yet complex enough to reveal new things each time it is heard... the music expressed here is both deeply personal and universally understandable.”

“It is so nice that you put our love to music!”
- Ana and Peter Renkow, long-time fans
"Gentle and comfortable enough to be Easy Listening, Kate's style is also rich enough and thoughtful enough to be categorized as Contemporary Classical and dramatically emotional enough to remind one of film scores." - cdbaby.com
Here are a couple of quotes from my upcoming book/CD, "Navigational Notes: From the Vale of Tears to Finding Aliveness." The book describes the process of discovery and instructions for the Connect the Dots/Glow exercises - simple but very effective meditative visualizations for reconnecting with inner well-being; the CD is a recording of the instructions, with accompanying piano music.
"Each person who connects with their inner center radiates a beneficial energy to the world around them, much as a pebble dropped into a still body of water generates circles of gentle waves. In today’s frontier of the human spirit I believe that when we live by the universal spiritual values of love and honor and respect and compassion, guided by the knowledge of our human condition gained by modern science, there is a possibility that we can live in peace - the serenity of inner peace, the safety and security of peace in the world."
"Love is the highest energy that humans can experience. I have tried to imagine a greater energy than love, but decided that for now it will be enough to work on experiencing and generating love on a more regular basis, and cutting down on the amount of time spent cycling through fear and doubt. Love is the essence of all of the spiritual philosophies and healing modalities I have studied. All of the teachings and instructions and explorations help us get rid of emotional patterns and erroneous behaviors and belief systems that block us from experiencing the love that is freely available in our hearts at any and all times. A famous teaching is the suggestion that we love others as we love ourselves (“Love your neighbor as yourself,” Matthew 22:40, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,“ Matthew 5:43 ). The more we love and care for our personal selves, creating and maintaining a strong inner connection with the Spirit of Love, the more we reflect our inner love to those in our lives, bringing harmony and joy to our world."

Music and Meditation Workshops last about an hour. Composed and improvised piano music are combined with guided visualizations and talk about spiritual philosophy, all delivered with loving humor and grace. Participants in Music and Meditation Workshops find themselves quickly accessing their inner connection to Universal Energy; the resonant beauty of the piano music helps open the spirit to Spirit. This is a practice that facilitates a deeper sense of well-being and vibrant peace for beginning or seasoned meditators; it is especially helpful for anyone experiencing depression.
The main requirement for workshop venues is a quality piano - resonance and tone are an integral part of the presentation.
