Laura Allen has been doing energy work since 1993 and massage therapy since 1998. She is the author of the Plain & Simple Guide to Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork Examinations (2nd ed., LWW, 2009) and One Year to a Successful Massage Therapy Practice (LWW, 2008). She is also a frequent contributor to Massage Magazine, including having a weekly blog, Massage Collage, on their website at www.massagemag.com, and is also authoring an upcoming business column in Massage & Bodywork.

Laura is a graduate of Shaw University and The Whole You School of Massage & Bodywork. After teaching and being the administrator at The Whole You for five years, Laura went into private practice as the owner of THERA-SSAGE. Now going into the fifth year, THERA-SSAGE has grown from Laura and one other massage therapist to include 14 practitioners of different disciplines, including chiropractic, acupuncture, naturopathy, aesthetics, and energy work.

Laura is an Approved Provider of Continuing Education under the NCBTMB. THERA-SSAGE is the blanket entity for both the clinic and The Education Station located in the THERA-SSAGE offices. THERA-SSAGE hosts excellent educators from all over the world for continuing education classes. Located in Rutherfordton, NC, THERA-SSAGE has attracted students from as far away as Canada, the Midwest, and California.

Laura is an active member of AMTA and is currently serving a term on the North Carolina Board of Massage & Bodywork Therapy. She is on the Advisory Board of the Asheville School of Massage & Yoga and on the visiting faculty at a number of schools, including the Obus School of Healing Therapies in Dublin, Ireland.

Laura acts as a consultant to practitioners and massage schools, specializing in assisting startup schools create the necessary paperwork and policies and procedures to satisfy their state boards for initial licensure, creating custom exams for massage schools, and assisting in the application process for those who would like to become Approved Providers. Due to her current service on the North Carolina Board, Laura is not assisting schools in North Carolina at this time in order to avoid conflict of interest, but schools from other states are welcome to inquire.

Laura is also a singer, songwriter and musician and has made appearances on four CDs, including By the Light of the Moon with Allen, Davis & Hogwild; Eloquence and Resonance, a compilation CD with various artists; Carnival for the Animals, another compilation CD that benefitted the Humane Society, and an appearance on Santa Fe, a recent release by the Blackberry River Band. She has made numerous appearances over the last thirty years, including appearances on public radio and public television.

Laura resides in rural Gilkey, North Carolina with her husband Champ, a carpenter and energy worker, and their spoiled Chow dog Smokey Bear.
