Saving Businesses from Extinction! Expert

Lee B. Salz is often referred to as a sales and sales management guru. He developed his firm Sales Dodo with the fundamental mission of helping companies, sales managers, and sales people adapt and thrive in the ever changing world of business. He uses the metaphor of the dodo to show what happens when one fails to adapt. Those who adapt, thrive. Those who don’t become extinct like the dodo bird of ages ago. Some laugh at the use of the word “dodo,” but there is nothing funny about a business losing its competitive edge due to unmanaged change.
For over 15 years, Lee has helped companies Adapt & Thrive! In some companies, he transitioned entire business models. In others, he created strategies to differentiate seemingly commoditized products and services. He has built high performance sales organizations that delivered record revenues and profits for companies, ranging from small start-up ventures to the Fortune 1000.
In June 2007, his widely-acclaimed book “Soar Despite Your Dodo Sales Manager” was published. In it he deals with one of the biggest problems companies face, the chasm between sales managers and sales people. The gap is primarily caused by the lack of recognition in companies that sales and sales management are completely different jobs. Most see sales management as simply a promotion and don’t train, mentor, or monitor a new manager on the new job. As a result, sales people are left to their own devices to figure out “success.” The book empowers salespeople by providing structure, guidance and support for them so they can create their own sales system which he refers to as sales architecture®. Told in a mentoring style, the book provides focus to an entire sales organization, helping the team to become self-sufficient and enabling them to perform at levels they never thought possible. It is with this new toolset that salespeople "Adapt & Thrive" with Lee by their side.
A new book is in the works for Lee, titled “The Sales Marriage.” This book will help business owners, sales managers, and recruiters make better hires for their sales team. Companies struggle to hire and retain sales people as many of them look to hire great sales people, not necessarily the right ones for their firm. Great sales people can, and do, fail in great companies if the marriage isn’t right. This book will help the reader define their ideal sales person and develop a sales talent screening program to find the right sales people. Look for this book in early 2009.
Lee is an online columnist for Sales and Marketing Management Magazine and his blog is featured on SalesGravy.com His sales and sales management articles are published on hundreds of websites. He is active in the speaking circuit sharing his message of "Adapt & Thrive" with business owners, sales managers, and sales people.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Binghamton University. He resides in Minneapolis with his wife and three children. Lee grew up in the New York/New Jersey area, and spent ten years in the Washington D.C Metro area.
