Transformative Breathwork and Emotional Freedom Techniques Expert

At the tender age of 15, Lois experienced a sudden awakening. She became determined to overcome the intense pain and self-consciousness she was feeling, and be the kind of person who could maintain healthy, loving relationships and make a difference in the world.

By the age of 20, she became vigorously involved in practices, activities and programs designed for personal growth, health, and spiritual development. These included: A wide variety of “schools” of Conscious Breathwork; Rolfing; Firewalking; Polarity Therapy; A Course In Miracles; Reiki; Non-traditional Psychotherapy; Imago Couples Therapy; EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques); Theta Healing and various forms of “prosperity training”.

By the age of 40, Lois had realized her original goal and was leading a healthy, prosperous and joyful life filled with healthy relationships. She now experiences great pleasure in supporting those who truly intend to eliminate stress, build inner strength and create meaningful, joyful lives for themselves. She does this by holding them in innocence while helping to identify and reprogram beliefs in their "personal operating system" that do not jive with their highest goals and deepest truths.

Working primarily with the PowerTools™ of Breathwork, Emotional Freedom Techniques™ (EFT), Psych-K™, Reverse Therapy™, Laughter Yoga, Body-oriented Therapy and Thought Management Techniques, Lois maintains a private practice in Hartford, CT. She is currently in the process of developing a center that will bridge the gap between leading-edge brain science and holistic healing modalities.

A naturally-gifted, authentic and engaging speaker, she loves to give seminars, workshops and trainings on a variety of health and stress-related topics, at government agencies, schools, corporations, churches, hospitals and community service organizations. She also travels internationally, and hosts an annual retreat in the Caribbean.

While training for Transformational Breathwork™ certification in 1998, Lois capitalized, researched, edited and published Dr. Judith Kravitz’ book, Breathe Deep, Laugh Loudly; The Joy of Transformational Breathing.

Extensive Training in Breathwork

Lois attended her first Rebirthing weekend workshop in 1981. Astonished by the benefits, she began exploring various Conscious Breathing methods. OxyGenesis Breathwork™ is a culmination of learning from teachers and mentors, including: Leonard Orr, who helped launch her full-time breathwork career in early 2002

  • Judith Kravitz, founder of Transformational Breath™
  • Dan Brule', international Breath Therapy™ trainer and founder of BreathMastery.com
  • Mike White, Founder of Optimal Breathing™ and Breathing.com
  • Valnn Dayne, founder of Ecstasy Breathing™
  • Kamala Renner, founder of DoveStar Institute and the HeartBreath Method™
  • Lynn Martin, who teaches Breathing Coordination™ (the late Karl Stough's technique - popular with musicians and COPD patients)
  • Swami Rama, founder of the Himalayan Institute and co-author of The Science Of Breath.

Other valuable experiences...

Lois has also been engaged in various aspects of business and politics since 1981, when she began her sales career in the automobile market. Over the next 20 years, she acquired experience in marketing, advertising sales & copywriting, publishing and Real Estate. Her natural talent for writing, editing and graphic design were key in publishing a book and two health-oriented newsmagazines: Horizons Magazine of Farmington, CT, and later as owner and publisher of The Self-Health Networker.

As an official candidate for US Senate in 1998, Lois also managed the campaign for other candidates on the “Term Limits Party" ticket. She has since spent many hours circulating official petitions, and co-managed petition drive campaigns in Massachusetts, Utah and Connecticut.

Why is air just like good sex?

The only time you think about it, is when you’re not getting any!

Funny, but true! Most people hardly ever think about their breathing. So when I recommend Transformative Breath Therapy, they’re expecting something like a sales pitch for Tic-Tacs or Altoids. Admittedly, it does help with “bad breath”, because it does rid your body of toxins and waste that can cause bad breath, but breathing well goes much deeper than that.

Transformative Breathing therapy is all about improving your breathing processes. Why would you want to do that? Because you can improve nearly every aspect of your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being by doing so!

Now, most people think I’m out of my mind when I say that, and that’s okay. (In fact, being “out-of-your-mind” is highly under-rated. But I’m jumping ahead here. Back to the body...

The fact is, most people are starving their cells of their “daily bread and butter”, which is oxygen. That’s right, while we all obsess about terrorism and worry about our pending deaths, almost 80% of the population is slowly committing suicide, because they are only getting about 35% of the oxygen needed to properly feed their cells. This might also explain why so many people suffer from fatigue, anxiety and panic attacks: Their cells are on the verge of starvation! Think about how you feel when you haven’t had a meal in just 6 - 8 hours. Pretty anxious, right? Ready to “eat a cow”?

Even if your belly is full of food, but your cells are starved of what they need most - oxygen - your whole body is still on the verge of starvation! Most foods and beverages consumed these days do little to conribute oxygen to the body and many work to deplete it! But that's another article...

Are you only getting 30% of the oxygen you need? Here’s the quick checkup: Put your right hand on your belly and your left hand on your breastbone. Take a deep breath now, without thinking too much about it, and notice which hand rises first during the inhale. If your left hand moved first, or the most, you are one of the 80% breathing poorly. If your right hand moved first, you’re breathing better. But you still may need to expand your breathing capacity, and it is a very good idea. Here's why:

First and foremost, if your left hand moved first, you are not using your diaphragm (muscle) much when you breathe. Therefore, the air is not being pulled down into the lower section of the lungs, which contains about 70% of the alveoli (little microscopic sacks that transfer oxygen into the blood). If you are not using them regularly, they are getting weak and toxins are building up in your body.

Let’s take a look at the exhale now. In addition to feeding your cells with oxygen, breathing is relied upon by the body for removal of 70% of the waste it produces! Wow! That means just by breathing properly and fully, you can dump twice as much waste as you can via sweating, urination and defecation all combined!

This is just the first of many physical benefits of Transformative Breathwork, and it's already pretty compelling, isn't it? Especially if you are one of the 80% who breathes at 1/3 of capacity.

How do we lose our innate ability to breathe with the diaphragm? It all has to do with bing "conditioned" to stuff our feelings instead of expressing them. The only way to stop ourselves from crying, as children, is to stop the breath from flowing. We become programmed to do so at a very early age. Without getting into more detail on this, suffice it to say that this is why re-establishing a healthy breathing pattern brings enormous emotional and spiritual relief.

In addition to restoring your body's automatic ability to supply itself with abundant oxygen (aka "fuel for energy"), Transformative Breathwork can restore your ability to process, honor, respect and express your feelings, thougts and emotions in a way that serves you and everyone around you.

When we are able to do this, we are freed from the tyranny of those energy-sapping habits of thought and behavior that can drive us crazy, wear us down and sabotage our goals. Instead we can use our energy to focus on whatever inspires us... whatever we aspire to. It all comes down to respiration... Perhaps this is why the latin word for "breath' is espiritus.

And maybe this explains something about my favorite quote from Dr. Andrew Weil, MD… “Breath is the movement of Spirit in the Body.” Dr. Weil is a big fan of conscious breathwork. He says, “Improper breathing is a common cause of ill health. If I had to limit my advice on healthier living to just one tip, it would be simply to learn how to breathe correctly. There's no single more powerful - nor more simple - daily practice to further your health and well-being than breathwork.”
