Fitness Nurses: We assist you with starting and maintaining every doctor's recommendation to exercise without the fear & embarrassment & with the knowledge of health & disease.™
You know how most people know they need to exercise, but may be faced with medical concerns and fear of moving, so they often end up doing nothing? Well, a Fitness Nurse bridges the gap between leaving the doctor's office with a medical diagnosis and the actual workout. We are here to assist anyone who hears their doctor's recommendation to exercise but don't know where or how to start. We utilize the nursing process, through fitness, to bring down our clients/patients health-related numbers and improve their mental state.
I am President and CEO of FitnessNursing.com. This company teaches and mentors new fitness nurses. We also promote Fitness Nursing to the communities we serve, supports nurses who want to work with people who want to and need to become more physically active but may have medical concerns and who are scared. Nurses interested in Fitness nursing should visit our website and our Fitness Nursing Blog for information on how to make money working as a Fitness Nurse within their specialty of nursing. For types of Fitness Nursing please go to The Fitness Nursing Website.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology (study of human movement & motion description) from the University of MD, College Park (1986). After years of competitive body building and trying to become a stand-up comedienne; I went back to nursing school, when I was a single mother, and became a Registered Nurse (RN) in 1993. I worked in med/surg, orthopedics, Long-Term Care, Staff Education, and currently (perdiem) as an RN Health Educator. I was missing so much what I loved, helping people transform their mind & body through fitness. Then tragedy struck and my beloved mother dropped dead on a treadmill. People would come up to me and say, "That treadmill killed your mother" or "That's just why I don't exercise, 'cause it'll kill you". That was the time I knew that I had to vindicate fitness and find out, then explain, what happened to my mother for real. I knew in my heart that 'she died trying to live'. She was a retired RN and always wanted me to somehow combine my skills. Today, I have several fitness certifications. Not only in Personal Fitness Training, but I also train and test others to become national personal fitness trainers through AFAA (Aerobics & Fitness Association of America). I have certifications in kickboxing, and Stott Pilates. I was certified as a Lebed Method Instructor which is dance therapy for breast cancer survivors. I've taught many group fitness classes from weight training for osteoporosis prevention, Pilates to kickboxing. I currently run a Fitness Nursing Business at Informed Touch Wellness in Deal, NJ. I also teach Strengthen & Stretch classes featuring the TRX and offer other Fitness Nursing services. I am the former chapter leader, but still a member, of the Jersey Shore Chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF). As a Certified Food Psychology Coach, I currently do group phone coaching at www.theminkyway.com/sq. We discuss how to become embodied and use bio-circadian nutrition (the WHEN & HOW you eat; not the obsessive WHAT you eat) to assist our brains to become more leptin sensitive and therefore begin to actually, naturally, 'burn fat in our sleep'. Issues with inactivity, stress eating, poor body image, cravings, etc. are corrected for the long term. I love making people laugh and I love exercising and movement in general. I believe that when you're laughing you're learning. So I have combined my comedy experience, nursing and fitness experience to form my own production company called, 'Jest' for Fitness & Food. As a Health-infotainer, I deliver humorous presentations on fitness, food, and stress. I try to keep 'not-your-ordinary' health information humorous on MY BLOG I also believe that Black folks will not stop give up fried chicken. So, I've researched a way for "Deep Fried Chicken Lovers" to eat HEALTHY Deep Fried Chicken.
