Family Fun and Games Expert

Dr. Michael Rayel, a psychiatrist, author, and game inventor, is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at MUN, Discipline of Psychiatry. In addition to being certified in Advanced Clinical Psychopharmacology (ASCP), Dr. Rayel is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with subspecialty certification in Forensic and Geriatric Psychiatry, and Psychosomatic Medicine.

Dr. Rayel has pioneered and conceptualized the CARE approach as a first aid methodology for mental health. In his book First Aid to Mental Illness (named Finalist, Reader's Preference Choice Award 2002), he advances the implementation of practical strategies and early intervention to deal with mental illness.

 

Through his books Successful Preparation for the Psychiatry Oral Exam and Passing Strategies, Dr. Rayel has helped psychiatrists pass the certification exam in Psychiatry (ABPN). Using the sound strategies found in these books, he has provided "How to Pass the Psychiatry Oral Exam Teleseminar" to interested exam candidates.

 

He also authored the A 31-Day Series for young people which currently has two titles: A 31-Day Success Principles for Kids and Teens and A 31-Day Positive Affirmation for Kids and Teens.

As a game inventor, he has created several noteworthy games. His latest invention, Actus Tale, was chosen as "Top Pick" in the Washington Post ToyTest 2007.

 

Moreover, he created the Oikos Game Series. This 'emotional intelligence' (EQ) board games can help players learn personal development and social/emotional skills such as dealing with conflict, asserting oneself, showing empathy, managing anger, making decisions, and setting goals in a fun way. The first of the series won the 2007 Platinum Award and 2005 Parent to Parent Adding Wisdom Award. Moreover, it has three versions.

 

Moreover, he created fun card games such as Fikloo - a party game, and Wordigy/Wordigy Jr. (with three and two versions, respectively) and IzSip Challenge - all challenging word games.

The Oikos Game 3, Fikloo, Wordigy, A 31-Day Success Principles for Kids and Teens, and A 31-Day Positive Affirmations for Kids and Teens are recipients of 2006 Parent to Parent Adding Wisdom Award.

As an entrepreneur, Dr. Rayel is the co-founder of Oikos Global, the maker of emotional intelligence games and family-oriented products; and Soar Dime Limited, the publisher of psychiatry, mental health, and parenting books.

Aside from being an Editor of Oikos' Insights! A Family and Self-Improvement Journal, Dr. Rayel is also the cofounder of Wordigy Challenge -- a word competition using Wordigy and Oikos Global Award -- a youth award that aims to recognize children and youths who have made a difference in the lives of their peers.
