Richard M. Cohen, LCSW, BCD, NCPsyA has been practicing Psychoanalysis, Psychotherapy, Marital, Couples and Family Therapy, EMDR, Supervision and Consultation for over 25 years. He is a Training Analyst and Senior Supervisor of Psychoanalytic Training at The Postgraduate Center for Mental Health in Manhattan.
Although I am trained as a Psychoanalyst and Psychotherapist I utilize techniques tailored to fit the individual patient. Where indicated I will use EMDR--Eye Movement Densitization and Reprocessing to help the patient resolve past or present traumas, sometimes quite rapidly. I also will utilize relaxation training/hypnosis and Guided Imagery to teach the patient to manage stress and anxiety and to achieve a more positive mental attitude in handling life's challenges, eg. public speaking, interviewing, presentation and sales calls. Positive Visualization techniques are also helpful for relationship issues including: dating, social anxiety, and handling new or stressful social situations.
Presenting problems that I deal with include: Anxiety, Depression, Difficulty in Relationships, OCD, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder/PTSD, Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual or Emotional Abuse, ACOA, Trauma, Parenting Issues, Sexual Orientation Issues, Marital Issues, Divorse, Step-Parenting, Occupational and Work Issues, Compulsive Behavioral Problems, Smoking Cessation, Compulsive Eating, etc.
I am available for the Supervision of the Therapeutic Process for Mental Health Practitioners from all disiplines.
I am also available for Conflict Resolution for Businesses and individual Executive Coaching. Telephone sessions are also available for those too busy to get to my office or travel a great deal.
