Rose De Dan is a mesa carrier in the Peruvian Q’ero tradition, animal healer and communicator, Reiki Master Teacher, writer, artist, and author of Tails of a Healer: Animals, Reiki & Shamanism. In practice since 1996 and in partnership with her companion animals, Rose offers private sessions and ceremonies for humans and animals, teaches Reiki classes and shamanism workshops in Seattle, and writes a blog about her experiences.

Rose's career as a Reiki and shamanic healer began in 1996 in Worcester, Mass., when she felt drawn to take a Level I class in Usui Reiki. During the attunement process (see first interview), Rose had a life-changing experience and was gifted with a vision of a healing practice for animals.

Passionately in love with Disney and other television nature programs as a child, Rose named her newly founded practice after Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom in honor of her childhood dreams, thus founding one of the first professional Reiki and energy healing practices for animals in the U.S. Much to her surprise Rose found that she was a pioneer in previously uncharted (or at least unpublicized) territory. Wanting to be inclusionary rather than discriminatory, the company motto became "Natural Healing for All Species (humans not excluded)."

Rose's companion animals were part of the healing practice from the beginning, but none more so than Shaman, a dapper black and white tuxedo cat who made teaching and healing the clients and students his special focus. Working in tandem with Rose in healing sessions for people, Shaman created the principal philosophies of Wild Kingdom Reiki: equality between species, and animals as teachers and healers. He was followed in the practice by Saqqara, second in command, and by Kiya, Cougar, Sand, and the dogs, Cerne (now deceased), and current dog, Puma (star of our new YouTube video, Two Dogs).

With the advent of the internet and the creation of Wild Kingdom Reiki's first website, thereby potentially entering global consciousness, Mutual of Omaha's lawyers threatened suit over the name. After Rose stopped laughing over the image of the megalithic insurance company taking on a solo energy healer in court, she decided it was time for a change anyway, one that better reflected the inclusion of shamanism into the energetic toolbox. Hence we are now known as Wild Reiki and Shamanic Healing LLC, a name that some people feel more accurately reflects the "wild" nature of our adventures in energy.

And there were lots of adventures along the way, and plenty of challenges and growth opportunities, some of which are documented in Rose De Dan's book, Tails of a Healer: Animals, Reiki & Shamanism, which consists of a series of 45 articles published over a nine-year period, and which has received many positive reviews.

She trained in Reiki Levels I and II training with Reiki Master Kathleen Wilk and in Master level with Reiki Master Mary Gallo. Additional training included the wisdom of Native American and Peruvian shamans, Tibetan Buddhist monks, T’ai Chi, and animal teachers. Specific shamanic teachers include Q’ero elder don Manuel Quispe; Alberto Villoldo and The Four Winds; Cusco-born shaman Jose Luis Herrera, Rainbow Jaguar; Mary Blankenship, Wiracocha Institute; Nipmuc shamans Little Turtle and Sleeps with Eyes Open.

Rose possesses a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from Clark University, and a background in graphic design, both of which she uses as a writer and artist. Through her articles and her spiritual art Rose promotes responsible animal/human companionship, and has given demonstrations and interviews concerning alternative healing as a facilitating process for personal change and the spiritual and energetic connection among humans, animals, and the natural world.

"If you talk to the animals they will talk with you and you will know each other.
If you do not talk to them you will not know them and what you do not know, you will fear.
