About The Books

GETTING HIP is a personal account of one woman's recovery from a total hip replacement. From the painful deterioration of her joint, to making the difficult decision to have surgery, Macdonald takes us with her on her postoperative journey. She discusses preparation for hip surgery, potential complications of the operation, and provides a detailed description of her rehabilitation. Also included are interviews with ten people worldwide who have had hip replacements.

GETTING HIP is written with wit and candor. It offers useful tips for coping physically and psychologically with hip surgery, as well as important information about how to treat a new hip in order for it to last as long as possible.

“After reading this informative and reader friendly book, you will have permission to vary from the expected norms and accept your own rate of recovery."

- Wendy Rogers, Physiotherapist (BPT)

“All anyone needs to know about this procedure is here."

- Una Holmes, Veteran of a Total Hip Replacement

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Sigrid Macdonald

As a writer, I love to help wanna-be writers realize their dream.  I act as a book coach, assisting new writers to clarify their ideas, organize their thoughts, flesh out characterizations, dialogue, plot resolution and background details.  Some people simply need confidence whereas others require direction.  In nonfiction manuscripts, I work with clients on structure, flow, up-to-date references and consistency.

As an editor, I am available for basic copyediting, which includes the elimination of misspellings and grammatical or punctuation errors.  I also look for repetitious words and generally polish sentence structure.  For more detailed projects, I do a structural edit and occasionally, I rewrite projects.

I love people and everyone's work is unique to me; I treat it as if it were my own because I know the feeling of handing one year's worth of work over to a stranger!  It can be unnerving.

I'm affiliated with Dragon Moon Press, a science-fiction publishing house in Alberta and I often refer clients to Wandering Sage, a small publishing company in Missouri.  I'm also savvy about self-publishing, and enjoy accompanying writers on the entire publishing journey.
