While I have been educated and trained in the scientist/practitioner model, and use evidence-based practices as the core of my work, I also recognize that there are limitations when we adhere solely to a research-based model. We know that, for the most part, published research excludes "non-significant" findings and rejected hypnotheses. Thus, there is a large body of additional information that never comes to light. Moreover, when we consistently observe that a procedure works, even though we don't know why, it is incumbent upon us to integrate it, albeit cautiously, into our practice.
