I went to College in the 70's and achieved placement on Dean's List with a 3.65 GPA. My Major was in Psychology and Minor was Small Business Management. People get College Degrees for various reasons. The main reason for obtaining a four year bachelor degree, is to get your foot in the door into an entry level job. The need for a Degree couldn't be more valuable in today's competitive job market. The higher degree programs are obviously required for entrance into the Professions.
I urge everyone to go to College or at least see if it fits himself, and strive for a minimum of an associate degree, or alternatively earn a certificate in something he or she enjoys doing. But, if College isn't for you, don't despair, as there are many Honorable Vocationsto choose from that can make you a very good living from just completing a certificate program.
For example, there are many trades you can get into that start with an apprenticeship and eventually land you a journeyman position in a few short years. Ultimately, a degree or certificate shows that you are qualified, and after that, it is you who has to deliver once you are on the job. These days, re-certification, classes, upgrades, and such are required to keep your skills current, provide for your future job security, which will basically keep you employed.
