I was born in post WWII Poland, and raised in Israel.
Some 40+ years ago I joined the Israeli army, trained and served as a medic. This was my first contact with medicine, helping the sick and hurting, and trying to make a change in a chaotic (even then) world. Three years later I was discharged from the mandatory service and while not knowing exactly what to do with myself, I ended up studying for my degree in International Relations and Sociology. Upon complition of my studies and graduation I travelled extensively in Europe, Middle east and the US. The diary that I kept during my traveling experiences later became the material I used writing a column for the Hebrew University weekly (Pi-Ha'aton) in Jerusalem, Israel.
I spent two additional years as a counselor for Scool for Foreign Students of the Hebrew University.
While conducting a research for one of my articles I met with the Jerusalem Police narcotics squad and found the police work challenging and entertaining. One must understand that although we find "bad guys" and corruption in every organization - the Israeli Police is by and large not only competent, but also honest. It is a national entity, just like the army and answers to the government.
Thus I started a long law enforcement career which took me from the police acdemy, through undercover assignments all on the strees of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and elsewhere in the Sinai desert, to the creation of the Israeli "mini-equivalent" of the DEA and a lot of international work. In my last duty in the Police I was the national head of narcotics in the Police HQ division of intelligence. Working on a variety of cases, which originated or involved Israeli nationals as well as drug traffickers from many places in South America, South East Asia, Europe USA and naturally - the Middle East. The nature of the drug trade in the Middle East often involved counter terror assignments as well.My duties included writing operational books and manuals, supervising the different drug squads and liaising between the Israeli police and many international drug enforcement and counter terrorism agencies.I also taught at the national Police Academy, and lectured in many forums. In 1990 I was asked by the office of the Prime Minister to assist in the development of a multifaceted government agency named the Anti Drug Authority of Israel (aka ADA), and in that capacity I was a consultant to the Israeli DOD, helped developing and improving new high tech means to assist border control, surveillance, explosives and drug interdiction.
Along with others we thrived to develop a national policy for dealing with drugs and their victims. At this point I became more involved in the rehabilitation facet of the narcotics issue. During these many "enforcement years" I became increasingly aware of the phenomenal stress under which soldiers, police officers and the agents of various intelligence community agents live their daily lives.
Gradually my interest shifted from the punitive one to one of helping people rather than punishing them. I started my studies on different alternative modalities while still serving the ADA In the Israeli College Of Natural Sciences in Tel Aviv. In 1998 I parted with the ADA and dedicated all my time to Holistic practice. I focused on energetic therapy, bodywork (such as Shiatsu, Thai bodywork), reflexology, Reiki, common massage techniques (DeepTissue,Swedish, Myofascial and Neuromuscular),Pre-natal massage, Repetitive Use Injuries healing through Muscle Release Technique (SM) and Aromatherapy. I am also Certified biofeedback technician, certified,EKG technician and last but not least - a nutritional consultant.
I live in Chapel Hill, NC since 1999 with my wife and two sons (21 and 16).
I practice Holistic therapy at the Well Path Holistic Clinic which I own.
I love my two dogs and my cat. Love scuba diving but most of the time has to limit myself to imagination while looking at..... my fish tank.
I love exercising, and stretching. My favorite sport is Shotokan Karate do, whhich had a great influence on my life (No, not "Mixed Martial Arts"...).
