More evidence smoking linked to breast cancer
“Women who smoke or who are exposed to secondhand smoke may have an
elevated risk of breast cancer, a new report suggests. The findings
support those of previous studies, including a report released on Friday
showing that girls who begin smoking as teens may be more susceptible to
breast cancer later in life. Another recent report linked heavy smoking
with breast cancer risk.”

KEEPING WARM IN THE WINTER -Be Cautious With Portable and Space Heaters
Keep space heaters at least three feet (one meter) away from anything
combustible, including wallpaper, bedding, clothing, pets, and people.
Never leave space heaters operating when you are not in the room or when
you go to bed. Don't leave children or pets unattended with space
heaters and be sure everyone knows that drying clothing over space heaters
is a fire hazard.
PRESERVE YOUR HEARING - Avoid flying if you have a heavy cold or ear
infection. Your ears may be unable to clear during changes in air
pressure and this could lead to a ruptured eardrum or inner ear damage. Listen
to music at a sensible volume. Always wear safety approved earplugs or
earmuffs when using noisy machinery. Wear a swim cap or approved
swimmer’s earplugs during swimming or water sports. If you have some hearing
loss and your hearing doesn’t return to normal within 36 hours, see
your doctor.
REMOVING TICK BITES - use tweezers, if available. Grasp (don't squeeze)
the tick as close to the skin as possible and remove with a steady slow
pulling motion. Or, use 2" masking tape. Place the adhesive side over
the tick and slowly peel off. This will frequently remove the tick. Wash
hands thoroughly after removing the tick. DO NOT use a match to make
the tick move. DO NOT cover the tick in any cream or Vaseline, as it
will make removal difficult. DO NOT handle the tick. DO NOT crush the
body of the tick, as that may cause it to inject its stomach contents into
the wound. After removing the tick, examine the bite area for any tick
parts remaining in the wound. Contact a physician for head removal.
Wash the area thoroughly with soap and water. Record the date of the
bite. Watch for any flu-like symptoms. Lyme disease symptoms may not
develop for up to two months.

a workout. With its emphasis on aerobic activity, it is tailor-made for

The book's forte is handing down strategies for getting past the
psychological barriers everyone faces on the road to fitness.
Some suggestions are geared more toward a fully grown adult body, and
YAs should probably check with a physician before doing things like
drinking two cups of strong coffee to boost performance, fasting
occasionally, or taking two multivitamins a day. Fortunately, the book mostly
sticks to the conventional wisdom of eating well and drinking plenty of
water.
With the plethora of supplements and exercise gadgets in the
marketplace, the book's refreshing counsel is to avoid most of that stuff and
keep things simple. Like a good coach, Harr urges readers to challenge
themselves and get excited about physical activity while cautioning
against overdoing things. A selection suitable for couch potatoes and eager

Cheese Tortellini with Vegetables
9 ounces cheese tortellini, frozen
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
1 large red onion, sliced
1 large red pepper, sliced
2 Tbs sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
2 cups broccoli, chopped
1/4 cup dry white wine
1/4 cup lemon juice, fresh
1 Tbs tarragon
3 Tbs Parmesan cheese, grated
1. Spray a nonstick skillet with non-fat cooking spray.
2. On medium heat, sauté onion and pepper for about 10 minutes.
3. Stir in chopped broccoli.
4. Pour in the lemon juice and wine.
5. Add the tarragon.
6. Cover and cook over low heat for about 15 minutes.
7. Prepare tortellini according to package directions while veggies are
cooking.
8. Stir the olive oil and sun-dried tomatoes with the veggie mixture.
9. Serve over prepared tortellini.
Yield: 3 Servings
Per serving: 13 oz. Cal 344, Fat 6 gms, Chol 50 mgs, Sod 543 mgs, Carb
53 gms, Protein 19 gms, Cal 200 mg, Iron 2.0 mg.
