Study: Speedhumps make streets safer
“Some people find them annoying, but those speed humps that force motorists to slow down in residential neighborhoods and near schools can significantly cut the risk of injury or death to children, a study says. The review found that children who lived on streets near a speed hump were up to 60 percent less likely to be hit and injured by an automobile than youngsters in areas without them.”

Child Vaccinations Do Not Cause Diabetes - Study
“Routine childhood vaccinations do not increase the risk of developing diabetes, according to a study of more than 700,000 Danish children.
The study, led by Anders Hviid of the Statens Serum Institute in Copenhagen, looked at all Danish children born from 1990 through 2000 and found that diabetes rates were not higher regardless of what types of vaccines were administered.”

Survey: Kids, parents missing sleep
“Children are sleeping less than experts recommend and many parents are not happy about it, according to a survey of American households by the National Sleep Foundation.
The foundation, an independent organization that supports sleep education, announced Tuesday that its annual survey found that children, from newborns to fifth-graders, are getting one to two hours less sleep every 24 hours than is recommended.”

*** HEALTHY RECIPES -***
Seafood Stew
2 medium carrots, sliced
2 medium celery stalks, sliced
1 large onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1 (14.5 ounce) can no salt added stewed tomatoes, undrained
2 cups water
2 teaspoons low sodium beef bouillon granules
1 medium potato, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1/2 pound lean fish cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1/4 pound peeled and deveined raw medium shrimp
1 (15 ounce) can great northern beans, rinsed and drained
1 small zucchini, cut half then sliced
1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
Spray large soup pot with nonstick cooking spray and heat over medium heat. Add carrots, celery, onion and garlic and cook until tender, stirring occasionally. Stir in tomatoes, water, bouillon and potato and heat to boiling. Reduce heat, cover and simmer about 15 minutes. Stir in fish, shrimp, zucchini and thyme and heat to boiling. Reduce heat, cover and simmer about 10 minutes or until fish flakes easily with a fork.
Makes 7 Servings
