* Creativity *

The Four Elements

I've often noticed how water can inspire moments of creative problem solving and inspiration.

Some people "plant" a problem to be solved under their pillow before sleep. Similarly, when I need inspiration about a project or situation I’m facing, I’ll sometimes "plant" it before I engage in a water activity such as taking a shower or doing the dishes.

* Healthy Meat *

Carbon monoxide is being used as a "pigment fixative" to treat meat in order to help it retain its redness.

The meat industry has defended this relatively new practice by claiming that money is wasted when sellers throw away good meat that has become slightly brown and less attractive.

* Hearing Aids *

In preparation for meeting with a hearing aid dispenser to buy hearing aids, there are a few steps you should take to ensure that you get the most out of the visit. Most importantly, you should not only have had a complete hearing test administered, but you should also have had your test results explained to you in detail. Make sure you have the results handy so you can bring them to discuss with the hearing aid dispenser.

*** Book Review: Dr. Melissa Palmer's Guide to Hepatitis and Liver Disease: What You Need to Know – By Melissa Palmer, M.D. ***
-------------------------------------------------------------

Palmer, a nationally recognized hepatologist, provides plainly written medical information explaining how the liver is integral to every aspect of daily functioning and well-being. She divides her text into four logical units: "The Basics," "Understanding and Treating Viral Hepatitis," "Understanding and Treating Other Liver Diseases," and "Treatment Options and Lifestyle Changes." Common misconceptions about this extraordinarily complex organ are dispelled; liver diseases are examined from symptoms through diagnosis and up-to-date therapeutics.

Palmer advises on finding a doctor and getting the latest information on liver disease from the Internet, MEDLINE, and the medical literature. (The author maintains the popular website liverdisease.com.) She also covers drugs, diet and nutrition, alternative therapies, surgery and transplantation, the liver in pregnancy, and living with an imperfectly functioning liver. Palmer's impressive work is truly encyclopedic. Highly recommended. --James Swanton, Harlem Hosp. Lib., New York
