* No joke: Laughter yoga stretches into OC *

This is no joke: It's a typical day at sunny Main Beach and a dozen people are wandering around with their hands in the air, laughing hysterically, squawking like chickens and talking gibberish.

Now limbered up, they suddenly form a loose circle and begin clapping and chanting before they resume a group stretch.

This is laughter yoga, a sidesplitting new fitness fad that's part traditional yoga, part improv and all silliness.

* Are Organic Foods Better for You? More Expensive Organic Choices May Be Nutritionally Equal to Their Conventional Counterparts *

There may have been a time, years ago, that the word "organic" was a rare sight in the grocery store aisles.

No longer. From produce to potato chips, consumers today have at their fingertips a host of organic choices for a wide range of foods.

The question remains, however -- are organic choices really any better for you?

* Pilates may give relief for Parkinson's patients: Controlled movements can reduce symptoms, improve balance *

Movements in Pilates exercises are controlled -- sometimes moving the body only inches -- but those small motions are making a big difference to some people with Parkinson's disease.

No research has been done to prove Pilates' effectiveness in reducing Parkinson's symptoms, but a growing number of patients say they are finding some relief.

* Treating Allergies With Allergic Food: Pilot Study Offers Hope Food Allergy Sufferers Can Build Tolerance *

Children with food allergies are told to avoid problem foods at all costs, but a novel experimental treatment is taking the opposite approach.

In a two-year pilot study conducted by researchers at Duke University and the University of Arkansas, eggs were very gradually introduced into the diets of kids who were highly allergic to them in an effort to desensitize the children.

* Aromatherapy *

Christmas for me is always associated with aroma. When I look back at childhood Christmases, it's the smells I remember. In the days leading up to Christmas, it was the wonderful rich, spicy smells of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger wafting from the kitchen, promising delights to come. And then, of course, about a week before Christmas, the fresh crisp outdoor smell of the pine of the Christmas tree followed, on Christmas morning, by the tangy citrus aroma from the orange or tangerine hidden in the toe of my stocking.

* Guilt *

Guilt is an important feeling. It is the appropriate feeling to have when we have deliberately done something hurtful or harmful to others. People who can harm others without any feelings of guilt or remorse were formerly called sociopaths or psychopathic personalities, and are now defined as suffering from Anti-social Personality Disorder. Anti-social Personality Disorder is a severe disorder that includes -- along with many other symptoms -- the lack of a conscience. Without a conscience, people can deliberately harm others without ever feeling guilt or remorse.

* Dyslexia *

The term "dyslexia" was introduced in 1884 by the German ophthalmologist, R. Berlin. He coined it from the Greek words "dys" meaning ill or difficult and "lexis" meaning word, and used it to describe a specific disturbance of reading in the absence of pathological conditions in the visual organs. In a later publication, in 1887, Berlin stated that dyslexia, "presuming right handedness," is caused by a left-sided cerebral lesion. He spoke of "word-blindness" and detailed his observations with six patients with brain lesions who had full command over verbal communications but had lost the ability to read.

*** Book Review: Organic Housekeeping: In Which the Nontoxic Avenger Shows You How to Improve Your Health and That of Your Family, While You Save Time, Money, and, Perhaps, Your Sanity – By Ellen Sandbeck ***
-------------------------------------------------------------

According to the EPA, "the air in the average American home is between two and ten times more polluted than the air just outside the threshold." Sandbeck, a onetime housecleaner and roofer, explains why a homemaker must avoid toxins and pesticides if the home is to maintain a balanced, healthy ecosystem.

The first chapter -- touting the benefits of tidying up and getting organized -- is tedious, but the book hits its groove in a chapter on "Organic Cleaning." Here, readers learn that all too often the very products we trust to keep our homes clean contain toxins and antimicrobials that kill beneficial organisms. Sandbeck touches on a wide array of housekeeping issues, sometimes almost straying dangerously off-topic. From preventing mold and mildew and controlling garden pests, to computer care and avoiding electrical fires, Sandbeck doles out knowledge with an easy-to-digest blend of authority and humor.
