* Nutty Perk for Women's Blood Pressure: Soy Nuts May Help Lower Women's Blood
Pressure *
When it comes to lowering blood pressure, soy nuts may be a smart snack for
women, a new study suggests.
Never heard of soy nuts? They're dry-roasted soybeans. Like other soy foods,
they contain nutrients called isoflavones, along with 8 grams of fat and 240
calories in a half cup.
The new study, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, included 60
healthy postmenopausal women who were 53-58 years old, on average.

* Stressed-out moms at risk of poor mental health *
Mothers of young children who feel they lack emotional support or help in caring
for their children have more than three-times the risk of mental health problems
compared to their peers who feel adequately supported, a new study shows.
More than one third of the 1,747 mothers participating in the study reported at
least one parenting stressor that boosted their risk of mental health problems,
Dr. Ritesh Mistry of the University of California, Los Angeles and colleagues
note in the American Journal of Public Health. ...

* Americans' diet IQs disconnected from reality: People confused about good and
bad fats, calorie consumption, study finds *
Ninety percent of Americans say breakfast is an important part of a healthy
diet, but just 49 percent manage to eat breakfast every day, a new survey shows.
And only 11 percent know the amount of calories they should consume daily to
maintain a healthy weight, according to the International Food Information
Council (IFIC) Foundation's second annual Food & Health Survey. "The only good
thing is more people tried to guess than last year," Susan Borra, the president
of the Washington, DC-based IFIC Foundation, told Reuters Health.

* Coffee Lowers Gout Risk: Coffee-Swilling Men Get Less Gout, Study Shows *
The more coffee men drink, the lower their risk of gout. At least four cups a
day lower gout risk by 40%, a Canada/U.S. study shows.
Gout starts with a buildup of uric acid in the blood. This results in deposits
of uric acid crystals in the joints and surrounding areas, causing swelling and
intense pain.

* Baby Care *
As new parents, it can be daunting to try to soothe a baby when they fuss and
cry. Here are some ideas that might help you to calm your baby.
1. Dance together. Gentle music soothes babies rather than fast music with a
lively beat. By swaying and humming to the music, you can entertain a baby
enough to help her relax and stop crying. If you can, make a tape or CD of your
favourite slow songs and enjoy some bonding time together.

* Metabolism *
Clients -- and just about everyone I meet who learns I'm a nutritionist -- ask
me this question all the time: How can I boost my metabolism?
Metabolism is simply the total of all body processes that burn calories -- your
basal metabolic rate plus your activity factor. When it comes to improving your
metabolism, there's good news and bad news.

* Alcoholism *
No one ever sets out to become an alcoholic. It is an insidious problem that
sneaks in the back door when you're not looking. What some people consider
"normal" drinking is actually the early stages of alcoholism. Much of what you
might find as socially acceptable drinking is actually in the range of addictive
behavior. Understanding the early warning signs can help you to prevent the
advance of this devastating problem in yourself and/or your loved ones.

Recognize Them And What To Do" - By William G. DeFoore, Ph.D., go to
