* Doctors Urged to Prescribe Exercise: Medical Groups Ask Doctors to Order Regular Exercise for Their Patients *

Take a walk around the neighborhood and call me in the morning.

That's what you're likely to hear from your doctor if several big medical groups succeed in their latest public relations push. The groups, including the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American College of Sports Medicine, want doctors to order regular exercise for practically all their patients.

The new campaign is called "Exercise is Medicine."

* Yoga boosts health in heart failure patients: study *

An eight-week regimen of yoga proved safe for patients with chronic heart failure and helped reduce signs of inflammation often linked with death, according to a study released on Monday.

More than 5 million Americans have chronic heart failure, a long-term condition in which the heart no longer pumps blood efficiently to the body's other organs. Health problems and deaths from the disease remain high despite widespread use of effective drug and device therapies to treat the condition.

* Study: Carrying Around an Extra 25 Pounds Doesn't Appear to Raise Risk of Dying From Cancer, Heart Disease *

Being 25 pounds overweight doesn't appear to raise your risk of dying from cancer or heart disease, says a new government study that seems to vindicate Grandma's claim that a few extra pounds won't kill you.

Released just a few weeks before Thanksgiving, the findings might comfort some who can't seem to lose those last 15 pounds. And they hearten proponents of a theory that it's possible to be "fit and fat."

The news isn't all good: Overweight people do have a higher chance of dying from diabetes and kidney disease.

* Energy drinks jolt blood pressure, study says: People at risk should avoid beverages with high levels of caffeine, taurine *

The increasingly popular high-caffeine beverages called energy drinks may do more than give people a jolt of energy -- they may also boost heart rates and blood pressure levels, researchers said on Tuesday.

The results of a small study prompted the researchers to advise people who have high blood pressure or heart disease to avoid energy drinks because they could impact their blood pressure or change the effectiveness of their medications.

* Meditation *

My definition of "meditation" is a somewhat broad one. I consider meditation is an opportunity to realize your higher consciousness (or to realize your oneness with your higher consciousness) and to let go of resistance.

There are many benefits to meditation, which I see as side effects or extras, rather than the primary purpose of meditation. However, many individuals are inspired to meditate because of benefits or perceived benefits, such as improved health, greater calmness, less sleep. Regular meditators are generally more attentive, aware, and calm.

* Stress *

Has your life been out of control lately? If so then join the crowd. The American Institute of Stress estimates that over 40 percent of Americans suffer from chronic stress, and as many of 20 percent feel completely overwhelmed. It's no wonder that prescriptions for medications to deal with anxiety are among the most commonly written by physicians.

How can you tell if you're effectively handling the stress in your life? One simple method for accessing your coping skills is to take your own pulse. Interestingly, the quality and speed that your heart beats on a daily basis can be a marker for your response to stressful situations.

* Enchantment *

In my years as a psychologist, I have come to believe that most people seeking psychotherapy are unhappy. This is not only due to earlier hurts and traumas, as well as present frustrations and problems, but because they cannot access earlier happy moments often enough. The unfortunate result is not being able to experience enough positive states of well-being. It is these unique states of well being that I have come to label THE ENCHANTED SELF.

Turkey Scallopini

3 tablespoons all purpose flour
4 (4 ounce) turkey breast cutlets
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
3 teaspoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons chopped fresh sage
1/4 cup dry white wine
3/4 cup reduced sodium chicken broth
1 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon reduced fat butter

Spread flour on a large plate. Pat turkey dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper. Dredge lightly in flour. Discard any remaining flour. In a large nonstick skillet, heat 1-teaspoon oil over medium high heat. Add turkey cutlets and cook until browned outside and no longer pink inside, about 2-4 minutes per side or until no longer pink. Transfer turkey to a platter and cover loosely with foil to keep warm. Add remaining oil and heat over medium heat until hot. Add garlic and sage and cook, stirring constantly for about one minute. Add wine and scrape up any browned bits. Increase heat to high and continue cooking about one minute. Add chicken broth and cook until liquid is reduced by half, about 4 or 5 minutes. Stir in lemon juice and simmer 1 minute more. Remove from heat and add butter. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve sauce over turkey.
