* Mediterranean diet wards off asthma, allergy: study *

Children of women who eat a Mediterranean diet rich in fruits and vegetables while pregnant are far less likely to develop asthma or allergies later in life, Greek researchers said on Tuesday.

And eating vegetables more than eight times a week, fish more than three times a week and legumes more than once a week seems to boost the protection, the researchers said in the journal Thorax.

* Eating slowly may not help you shed pounds: How the food tastes is what counts, not how fast you consume it *

It's long been thought that if you wolf down your food, you'll consume more calories during meals. People trying to control their weight are told to pause between spoonfuls and to put the fork down while chewing.

Diet experts have been pushing this advice since the early 1970s, but does it really work? It started with the suggestion that obese people eat faster than lean people. In fact, there's little solid evidence showing that eating more slowly affects how much you weigh.

* 3 Nutrients May Cut Cataract Risk: Getting Enough Lutein, Zeaxanthin, and Vitamin E May Make Cataracts Less Likely *

The antioxidants lutein, zeaxanthin, and vitamin E may help prevent cataracts, according to a new study on nutrition and eye health.

The study's key finding: Women who get more lutein, zeaxanthin, and vitamin E are less likely to develop cataracts than women who skimp on those nutrients.

Foods rich in lutein and zeaxanthin include leafy green vegetables (such as spinach, kale, turnip greens, collards, and mustard greens), squash, green peas, broccoli, pumpkin, and corn.

* More women need folic acid supplements: U.S. experts *

More U.S. women are taking daily supplements of folic acid, a B vitamin crucial to prevent some major birth defects, but the number remains too low, federal health officials said on Thursday.

Forty percent of women ages 18 to 45 said in a survey last year that they took the supplements each day, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a report.

That compares to 28 percent in 1995, the CDC said.

* Feng Shui *

Let's face it: most of your resolutions belong under the 3 major categories of improving your Health, Relationships, or Finances. For example, some of you have resolved to improve your health through diet and exercise. Still others intend to improve your relationships or begin a new one. Becoming debt-free or earning more are also very popular New Year's resolutions every year. Let's face it... everything that's important in your life falls in the categories of Health, Relationships, or Financial issues, which are the same categories that are directly affected by the existing Feng Shui influences in your home and office.

* Overwhelm *

Yesterday I had lunch with a dear friend, a marketing manager for a real estate company. Judy travels on business and has a one-year old daughter. In 2 minutes, she quickly shared the following: her nanny unexpectedly quit, she's negotiating complex business deals, she's building a house, selling her own condo, and her administrative assistant recently crossed over. She felt her husband did not understand the time commitment involved in mothering. To boot, she was worried about losing weight and looking beautiful.

* Sleep *

Guided imagery has been an especially effective tool in alleviating many kinds of sleep disturbances. When children and adolescents have difficulty sleeping at night, imagery can offer a soothing and comforting way to drift off into dreams. Children discover their own solutions by using tools such as meeting a wise friend (animal or human) for advice or receiving a special gift to help fall asleep.

*** Book Review: The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea – By Bob Burg and John David Mann ***
-------------------------------------------------------------

"The Go-Giver" tells the story of an ambitious young man named Joe who yearns for success. Joe is a true go-getter, though sometimes he feels as if the harder and faster he works, the further away his goals seem to be. And so one day, desperate to land a key sale at the end of a bad quarter, he seeks advice from the enigmatic Pindar, a legendary consultant referred to by his many devotees simply as the Chairman.

Over the next week, Pindar introduces Joe to a series of "go-givers": a restaurateur, a CEO, a financial adviser, a real estate broker, and the "Connector," who brought them all together. Pindar's friends share with Joe the Five Laws of Stratospheric Success and teach him how to open himself up to the power of giving.

Joe learns that changing his focus from getting to giving -- putting others' interests first and continually adding value to their lives -- ultimately leads to unexpected returns.

Imparted with wit and grace, "The Go-Giver" is a heartwarming and inspiring tale that brings new relevance to the old proverb "Give and you shall receive."
