* Chronic pain seen altering how brain works *
Brain scans of people in chronic pain show a state of constant activity in areas
that should be at rest, U.S. researchers said on Tuesday, a finding that could
help explain why pain patients have higher rates of depression, anxiety and
other disorders.
They said chronic pain seems to alter the way people process information that is
unrelated to pain.

* Sleep Disruptions May Arise With Age: Breathing Problems During Sleep More
Common in Older People, Study Shows *
As people age, their breathing during sleep may become more irregular, a new
study shows.
That news comes from a study of 163 healthy, non-obese adults who spent a night
at a sleep lab, with their every breath monitored as they slept.
The researchers tracked the number of times each person's breathing was
disrupted during sleep. Those disruptions included not breathing for at least 10
seconds or slowdowns in breathing.

* Half of Americans don't get a second opinion: Here's what to do to ensure you
get the best diagnosis and treatment *
In 2004, I almost agreed to a risky and complicated surgery for my 7-year-old
son, who had chronic sinusitis. The local ear, nose, and throat doctor said it
was best, but my husband and I couldn't shake the feeling that there had to be
another treatment that didn't include the chance of brain damage and blindness.
So we sought out the head of otolaryngology at a nearby university-affiliated
medical center.

* Fitness *
Women who battle frustration and silently scream from failed weight loss
attempts, poor health, and lack of will power are not alone. It's not all about
exercise and diet. If your spirit isn't with the program, even the best
discipline might just lead to injury or worse yet feeling you failed even when
you gave it your "all."
Statistics show "dieting has a 95% failure rate and just by switching from a bad
lifestyle to a healthier one, one can expect to add as much as 14 years to their
life." But what do you do when you think you have done everything and the
results don't last?

* Imagination *
John Lennon entitled a song "Imagine." Thoreau once said: "Go confidently in the
direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined." Neville once said:
"Imagination is the very gateway of reality."
Are you waking up to a new way of being? Can you feel something rumbling deep
within you, calling out to live more creatively, successfully, joyfully? ...

* Anti-Aging *
Everyone should periodically take their mental health temperature by asking
themselves if they feel hopeful about aging well and hopeful about their future.
I was at a seminar for professional speakers and marveling at the speaker's
skill. Afterwards I asked him if he consciously crafted his speaking persona or
if it just evolved. The more I thought about it, the more I thought about the
relationships speakers have with their audiences.

When it comes to food, nature provides a wealth of delicious choices. But each
one also supplies unique health benefits. From apples to yogurt, this
comprehensive encyclopedia of power foods from top nutritionist David Grotto
proves that what tastes good can also be good for you -- and tells you why. Did
you know...
* A handful of tart cherries before bed can help you sleep better
* Hot peppers may fight skin cancer
* Potatoes may reduce the risk of stroke
* Grape juice may be as heart-healthy as red wine
* Honey can help wounds heal faster
In working with thousands of clients over many years and searching for the most
nutritious and tasty foods, David Grotto made a simple but profound discovery:
telling people what they couldn't eat was far less effective than telling them
what they could. So began his list of power foods, rich in nutrients, loaded
with disease-fighting antioxidants and important omega fats -- and surprisingly
more familiar than you might expect.
More than a reference book, "101 Foods That Could Save Your Life" will make a
significant impact on your health by guiding you to gradually add these foods to
your diet. Plus, each entry includes a history of the food's origin, therapeutic
benefits along with scientific research, tips for use and preparation, and an
appetizing recipe from a leading chef or nutritionist. Prepare to awaken your
taste buds, lose excess weight, and feel the healing begin.
