* Meditation technique can lower blood pressure *
Practicing a particular type of meditation twice a day can significantly reduce
blood pressure, according to an analysis of existing research on the technique.
The blood pressure reductions associated with regular practice of transcendental
meditation, or TM, would translate to a 12-15 percent reduced risk of dying from
cardiovascular causes and a 15-20 percent lower risk of stroke, Dr. James W.
Anderson, the study's lead author, told Reuters Health.

* Yoga helps older women balance and stand taller *
Elderly women showed measurable improvements in their walking speed and balance
after a nine-week yoga program -- and they gained a centimeter in height, on
average, Philadelphia researchers report.
"The only explanation may be that they are standing more upright, not so much
crouching," study chief Dr. Jinsup Song of Temple University told Reuters
Health. Song presented the findings April 4 at the Gait and Clinical Movement
Analysis Society's Annual Meeting.

* Diet helps prevent cardiac trouble in women: Govt. recommended plan lowered
heart attack rate 24 percent, study says *
A large study offers the strongest evidence yet that a diet the government
recommends for lowering blood pressure can save people from heart attack and
stroke.
Researchers followed more than 88,000 healthy women for almost 25 years. They
examined their food choices and looked at how many had heart attacks and
strokes. Those who fared best had eating habits similar to those recommended by
the government to stop high blood pressure.

Glazed Pork Tenderloin with Apples
1 pound lean pork tenderloin
1/4 cup apple jelly
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
2 red apples, cored and thinly sliced
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Combine apple jelly, lemon juice, and pumpkin pie
spice and mix well. Spray roasting rack with nonstick cooking spray and place in
a baking dish. Place pork tenderloin on rack and brush with half of the apple
jelly mixture. Roast at 375 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until meat thermometer
reads 155 degrees. Let stand for 5-10 minutes. Place apple slices on broiler
pan, brush with remaining marinade, and broil for 5 minutes or until tender.
Slice tenderloin and serve with apples.
Makes 4 Servings
Serving Size: 4 ounces pork and 4 ounces apples
