* Smoking hurts mind as well as body: study *
Middle-aged adults who smoke tended to perform poorly on tests of memory and
reasoning compared to nonsmokers, adding to the list of reasons not to smoke,
French researchers said on Monday.
Analyzing previously
collected data on about 5,000 British civil servants, the researchers found
those who smoked were more likely than people who never smoked to be in the
lowest-performing of five groups in tests of memory, reasoning, vocabulary and
verbal fluency.

* Hypchondria *
The 21st century has brought with it a unique tool for people who fear their
cold or headache is actually something much worse: the Internet. Unlike decades
ago, you can now type your latest symptom into any search engine and be
bombarded with health information, including all the potentially deadly diseases
you could have.
More than 6 million Americans search online for medical advice every day,
according to the Pew Internet & American Life Project, and while most of this
searching is harmless, it can be devastating for someone who has a fear of
getting sick.
Why? The power of suggestion.

* Weight Loss *
Let's just get down to the nuts and bolts of how to rid yourself of unwanted
weight, which for many of you is quite easy. The phantom puzzle piece that keeps
eluding you is the piece on maintaining the results.
Maintaining the results is not so easy if you don’t know what to do. You may
fall prey to the crazy ads and claims that feed off your emotions and not upon
your ability to rationalize and determine for yourself what makes sense and what
doesn’t.
What saddens me is not the tons of money being lost but the loss of self
respect, confidence, and ability to know what is best for yourself in the
perpetual effort to “lose weight now.”

* Pain Management *
Who enjoys talking about pain? Pain is a miserable topic. Wouldn’t you rather
talk about everything you can possibly think of other than pain? Hopefully you
answered “Yes!” because that is what pain management is about. It’s about
focusing on and managing everything in your life other than pain.
Have you ever noticed how, after you get a new car, there are suddenly so many
on the road just like it? There really aren’t. It’s just that as your brain
sorts the information coming at you moment by moment, it finds what is important
to you and brings it to your awareness.

Management" - By Cindy Fisher, MA, RCC,
